Highlights:  Hiwassee jumped to a 5-0 lead after three innings, then
held on as Jackson State came back to score four in the bottom of the
eighth.  Corteze Armstrong went 2 for 5, including a home run to lead off the game.  Anton Standifer went 2 for 4 with a double and RBI.  Brent Gabel improved his record to 11-3, allowing only six hits and striking out six.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Motlow State, down 10-3, scored nine runs in the final two
innings to defeat Dyersburg State in a wild one.  Dyersburg State led
5-2 after seven innings, then scored five more runs in the top of the
eighth, including Brandon Shelton's grand slam over Engel Stadium's left
field wall.  Motlow State scored four in the bottom of the eighth on a
two-run single by Mark Caprio followed by Alan Lindsey's two-run double.  After Dyersburg State scored one run in the top of the ninth, making the score 11-7, Motlow State scored five in the bottom of the ninth to win the game 12-11.  Motlow State tied the game on a two-run single by Caprio, then won it on a bases-loaded single by Glenn Rogers.  Top hitters in the game were Dyersburg State's Shaun Lehmann (4 for 4, HR, 2 RBI) and Will Davis (3 for 6, solo HR), and Motlow State's Mark Caprio (4 for 6, 4 RBI) and Alan Lindsey (2 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI).

HIGHLIGHTS:  Southwest ties school record for wins with 37 (tying the
2000 Saluqi squad).  Chris Rogers' two-run single in the fourth gave
Southwest the lead.  Rogers, Wes Melton, and Josh Meeker had two hits
each.  In the second round, Southwest plays regular season conference
champion and 5th-ranked Walters State at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Walters State's Adam Howard was dominating, tossing a
no-hitter and striking out 13 batters.  Eleven of Howard's K's game in the first five innings, and only four Cleveland State's batters reached
first base (three walks and one hit batter.)  Jared Gaston's solo home run in the second gave Walters State a 1-0 lead, then Gaston's RBI double scored Boodle Clark with the second run in the fourth.  Walters State added a single run in the seventh and four more in the eighth.  On the night, Gaston went 3 for 4, while Clark had two hits and Jon Edmonds
drove in two runs.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Ryan Cunningham's single with two outs in the bottom of
the ninth scored Robert Kimbrough and Shaun Lehmann with the tying and
winning runs as Dyersburg State defeated Jackson State 11-10.  Jackson
State tied the game in the top of the ninth on a solo home run by Matt
Crownover.  The two teams combined for 21 runs and 25 hits.  Top hitters
in the game for Dyersburg State were Cunningham (2 for 5, HR, 4 RBI),
Brandon Shelton (3 for 4, HR, 2 RBI), and Kevin Herring (3 for 4, HR, 2
RBI).  Philip Riley led Jackson State with 3 hits, including 2 doubles
and 2 RBI.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Columbia State's Michael Kennedy led off the top of the
seventh with a home run to tie the game at 2-all, then Chad Holt followed him with a double and later scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.  Columbia State pitchers Ben Wilshire and Nathan Pugh combined to allow only six hits and struck out 13 batters between them.

runs.  Motlow State had broken a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth on an
RBI single by Luis Bautista.  Motlow State took a 2-0 lead in the
fourth on a two-run homer by Courtney English.  Hiwassee's Brett Rampley led off the sixth with a solo shot, then the Tigers tied the game at 2-2 on a sacrifice fly by Corteze Armstrong.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Southwest set a new school record for wins with 38,
defeating 5th-ranked Walters State 8-4 in the second round of the
TJCCAA/Region VII Tournament at Engel Stadium in Chattanooga.  Michael Pinkston's two-out single in the second inning scored Chris Rogers and Josh Meeker to give Southwest a 2-0 lead.  The Saluqis then scored five runs over the next three innings to increase their advantage to 7-0.  Walters State scored one run in the sixth and three more runs in the seventh to trim the deficit to 8-4.  Southwest starting pitcher Josh Meeker improved his record to 9-1 on the season.  Meeker struck out six in 6-1/3 innings before giving way to Charlie Ligon, who allowed no runs in 1-2/3 innings. Closer Drew Buford got the final two outs to earn his
conference-leading 12th save of the season.  Wes Melton went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI for Southwest, while Walters State was led by Jared Gaston, who had three hits and 2 RBI. 
 
Southwest will play Hiwassee at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Matt Crane went 4 for 5 with a double, home run, and six 
runs batted in.  Crane's grand slam highlighted a six-run second inning, 
and also had a two-run double in the fourth.  Also with multiple hits 
for Columbia State were Mark Nichting, Jacob Birkofer, and Josh Horn 
with two hits each, and Jeff Whitaker hit a two-run homer in the fifth 
inning.  Leading Motlow State were Courtney English, who hit two home runs 
and had three RBI, and Dylan Lynch, who had three hits and three RBI.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Chuck Hargis hit a two-run homer and Jared Gaston's 
two-run double highlighted a four-run third inning for Walters State. Nick 
Manis hit a solo home run in the sixth to give Walters State a 6-3 lead.  
Will Davis led Dyersburg State with three hits and two RBI, and Ryan 
Cunningham had two hits, including a two-run home run in the sixth 
inning, which made the score 6-5.   After allowing two runs in the first 
inning, Walters State starting pitcher Mitch Waddell settled down to 
scatter seven hits over 7-1/3 innings before giving way to Mitch Turner,
who went the final 1-2/3 innings to earn the save.

HIGHLIGHTS:  Brit Vincent went 3 for 5 with a home run to lead 
Southwest.  Also with multiple hits for the Saluqis were Nick Smith and Ryan 
Orr with two hits each.  Jamie Carrico allowed six hits over 7-1/3 
innings and struck out four.  Wes Moody pitched one shutout inning in relief, 
then gave way to closer Drew Buford, who retired the final two batters 
to earn his 13th save of the season.  With the win, Southwest is 
assured of playing in the championship game on Friday.  
 
"Our players are playing well and having fun," said Southwest head 
coach Johnny Ray.  "We done the little things well, and have been 
productive when we've had chances to score runs."

Westmoreland hit back-to-back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first inning. Westmoreland also hit a solo shot in the eighth, and Clark Jackson hit a solo homer in the seventh. The Senator's 19-hit attack was led by Clark (3 for 5, double, home run, 4 RBI) and Kyle Sullivan (3
for 6). Nick Smith led Southwest with 3 hits, a home run, and 4 RBI.

HIGHLIGHTS: Walters State pitcher Adam Howard improved his season
record to a perfect 14-0 in a pitchers duel with Hiwassee's Brent Gabel. Both Howard and Gabel went the distance, with both pitchers striking out 11 batters. Howard allowed only five hits and walked two, while Gabel
gave up seven hits and walked one. Walters State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a double by Chuck Hargis and consecutive singles by Kyle Sullivan, Boodle Clark (RBI), and Jared Gaston, and a run-scoring ground ball out by Eric Thornburg. Hiwassee cut the lead to 2-1 in
the fourth as Corteze Armstrong led off with a single and later scored
on a ground ball (fielder's choice) by Jason Barnes. Walters State
added an insurance run in the top of the eighth as Sullivan led off the
inning with a home run.

HIGHLIGHTS: Southwest's Nick Smith doubled to lead off the bottom of
the eighth inning, then after Walters State pitcher Boodle Clark struck
out the next two batters, Smith scored the go-ahead run when Kyle
Watkins reached first on a throwing error. Walters State broke a scoreless tie in the top of the seventh as Jon Edmonds led off with a single, advanced to third on a two-out throwing error, then scored on a single by Clark. In the bottom of the seventh, Mark Schildmeier led off with a single, Brad Tillman walked, then Ryan Orr bunted into a 1-5 fielders choice. Dustin Shields then singled to drive in Tillman from second with the tying run. Southwest starting and winning pitcher Daniel Adams went eight innings, allowing seven hits, one unearned run, and striking out six. Saluqis' closer Drew Buford retired the final three Walters State hitters to pick up his 14th save of the season. Walters State starter Jon Kirby also pitched an outstanding game, allowing one run and striking out four in six innings. The win gave Southwest its first-ever TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII championship. The Saluqis will play on the road next week in a best of three series against Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, CO.
