The Red Boiling Springs baseball team should be on its way up this year
because it has gone though a youth movement the last couple of years. This
team has committed to get better during the off-season, playing summer
baseball and doing extra work on their own. "This team has gone though
some tough times the last couple years, but we believe we will be able to
compete this year," said coach David Swoner. All but one starter returns
for the Bulldogs. Jasper Tuner 12, Trey leonard-12, Klye
Ray-10 Ethon Russell-10, and Jake Stiles-9 all return to pitch. RBS will
have success if the pitching and defense play well. The offense should
improve throughout the season. Monterey 20-7
1/30/07 Monterey returns seven
starters from last year. The team will be built around pitching since
every pitcher is returning. Seniors Brandon Horton and Jonathan Judd will
lead the team while sophomores Cody Cantrell and Josh Cloyd will add to
the rotation. Cantrell will anchor the team at catcher while Horton ,
Cloyd, and Judd will be infielders. Junior Dustin Ward along with freshman
Josh Wilson and Trent
McCormick will round out the infield and pitching staff. In the outfield
seniors Chris Phipps, Corey Howard, TJ Horton , and junior Timmothy
Coggsdale will lead the way. These guys should provide good defense and
speed to the line up.
1) Brandon Horton SR. 7-6
2) Jonathan Judd SR. 5-0
3) Cody Cantrell So. 4-1
4) Josh Cloyd SO. 3-0
5) Dustin Ward SO. 1-0
6) Josh Wilson FR.
7) Trent McCormick FR.
This will be the strength of our team. Pitching along with solid defense
is what this team will be built around.
Sophomores Cody Cantrell and Josh Cloyd who had great years as freshman
need to have another good year. Senior Corey Howard needs to rebound from
a down year and return to the for he had as a sophomore. Chris Phipps also
needs to improve his output at the plate. Looking to move into a starting
role outfielders Timothy Coggsdale and Drew Scott need to show improve-ment.
Also freshman Wilson and McCormick could win starting positions.

Four Seniors that have all started
since their Freshman year should be the backbone of this years team.
Jerrell Smith (1B/DH Sr.) good glove in the infield still not fully
recovered from a freshman shoulder surgery. We wil need his bat to come
alive this year to be a big RBI guy for the team. Tyler Vaden
(Utility/Pitcher SR.) plays extremely hard, we will need Tyler to be more
productive at the plate this year, and probably anchor the corner at third
base. Anthony Murphy (catcher SR.) good arm, and
a lot of pop in his bat great power guy last year needs to keep improving
behind the plate in order for us to be successful. Bryce Randolph
(OF/Pitcher Sr.) great bat and good wheels, fielding has been a huge
concern moving from SS to OF this year. (batted .537 last year). Matthew
Thornton (OF Jr.) also started since his freshman year moves well and is
becoming a very good outfielder for us. Bryan Gibbs(P/C Jr.) has the
potential to be a true #1 pitcher, something we have not had the last two
years. His mechanics will have to get bet-ter in order for this to be a
reality. Jake
Oneal(SS, Jr.), started the last 1/2 of the year for us at short and did a
great job in the field. He needs to mature at the plate more as he needs
to be a weapon for the Tigers. Chase Malone (P/SS/OF, So.) has the tools
to be a great pitcher got some work last year and did
a good job late in the year has a lot of potential. Jesse Gullett (OF,
Jr.) good speed, started most of the games last year. Josh Arnold (1B/3B,
Jr.), Cody Mason(3B/OF, Jr.), and Andrew Gibbs (P/2B Soph.). these last
three players got some experience last year and need to be able to help us
out this year.
Pitchers
1. Chase Malone (Soph.)
2. Bryan Gibbs (Jr.)
3. Tyler Vaden (Sr.)
4. Bryce Randolph (Sr.)
5. Andrew Gibbs (Soph.)
Keys to Success.
This year's Seniors need to live up to the expectations they provided as
Freshmen.
Pitching has been a weakness the last couple of years with no consistency
in the staff. Need the middle and bottom of the line up to be more
productive, the top two batters were well over .400 then it dropped to
.250. "Overall, we just have to be a more consistent ball club instead of
the Yankees one day and the Bad News Bears the next," said coach Mac
Petty.
Trousdale County

1/7/07 The 2006 Yellow
Jackets set a school record for wins in a season breaking the record
previously set in 2005 while making the school's second straight state
tournament appearance. Now enter 2007 and there are only three kids
returning with any significant game experience. Two of those players are
two of only three returning
seniors (Matt Sloan, SS & Michael Ford, 2B). The team's leading
returning hitter and pitcher rounds out the three returning starters.
Junior LHP/OF/C/1B John Scruggs(7-1 2.41 ERA & .366 AVG. in 2006) is
expected to anchor the pitch-ing staff. Phillip White (Jr. RHP) comes into
the '07 as the #2 starter. White got great
experience on the mound last year. White will also see time at 3b. Tyler
Bergdorf (Sr,OF) can play defensively but must show he can hit to get into
the everyday line up. Other players expected to get looks are Dillon Kirby
(So.,
INF/RHP/C), Dustin Sykes (Jr.,OF), Garrett Hawkins (Jr.,OF), Spencer
Wiggins (So.,OF/C), William Scruggs (Jr.,OF), Ben McKee (Jr.,C/1B),
Anthony Spears (Fr.,C), Dillon Young(Fr,IF/OF), and Terrian Luster (Jr.,OF).
Possible Pitching Rotation
1. John Scruggs-LHP Jr.
2. Phillip White-RHP Jr.
3. Dillon Kirby-RHP So.
4. Wesley Woodard-RHP So.
Other Possible Pitchers: Ryan Alanis-RHP So.
Matt Sloan-RHP Sr., Michael Ford-RHP Sr., Tony Hood-RHP So.
Experience is what this team doesn't have and that is what could trouble
this group. John Scruggs is the only player that has a start at catcher
but we want to avoid having our #1 pitcher go behind the plate. Finding
ways to score runs is a concern. "We graduated five players who started
all four years and they were the heart of our team the last two years.
We are truly in a rebuilding mode, but these guys love the game and have
worked hard in the off-season," said Coach Davy Cothron.
Friendship Christian 28-9
1/15/07 The Commanders will be
entering the year with several unknowns, but the luxury of having a senior
dominated team. We will have 7 seniors starting, with 2 Juniors at any
given time.
Top Position Players:
1. Brian Cravens (SR.) SS/2B
2. Jon Miller (SR.) OF
3. Wade Mitchell (SR.) Catcher
4. Stephen Pryor (SR.) 1B
5. Cody Searcey (SR.) OF/SS
6. Taylor Ferraro (SR.) 3B
7. Brent Boyd (SR.) OF/2B
8. Bryant Alsup (JR.) OF
9. G.L. Waynick (JR.) 1B/DH
Pitching should be a strength of this years team. There are plenty of arms
in this staff, but the 4-6 pitchers are still unknown at this time.
Pitchers:
1. Stephen Pryor (SR.)
2. Cody Searcey (SR.)
3. Brian Cravens (SR.)
4. Brent Boyd (SR.)
5. Jesse Coe (JR.)
6. Jordan Dennis (Soph.)
7. Jeremy Hunley (Soph.)
8. Mitch Miller (FR.)
This keys to success for this season all start with hard work and not
being satisfied. Last seasons team never got into a groove and was too
streaky at the plate and on the mound. This years senior class must lead
by example and play for each other in order to reach their goals. Only
time will tell, but they are off to great start with their work ethic.
Mt. Juliet Christian 4-14
1/26/07 Jonathan Roberts is out
toop returning player. He was an all-district player who batted .362 in
the leadoff position (a role he was new to last year). A versatile player,
Jonathan played catcher, shortstop and pitched. As a freshman, he started
at 2nd and played some 1st. With only one returning senior, Daniel Shedd,
Jonathan will serve as co-captain.
Most of our pitching corps will be freshman and sophomores. Some are new
faces to our program as well so it much of what our season will become
will be as much of a surprise to us as to those who watch us. The pitchers
will be Daniel Shedd, Jonathan Roberts, Chris Frazier, Steven Bryan and
Codye Sullivan.
Pitching will be the key with such a young team. Defense of course will
determine how
many pitches and what kind of situations our young pitchers will have to
work out. Offen-sively, we will have to be unselfish. |
