David Lipscomb       29-10                  1/22/07

Sr. Josh Holt will be a returning pitcher. Last year he was 9-2 with a 1.26 ERA. Senior Daniel Lyons was our top reliever. He was 4-2 with 3 saves and a 3.09 ERA. Sr. Ben Lehning should be one of our best athletes and can help us almost any position on the field. Jr. outfielder Kevin Davis proved to be a very good defensive player for us with great speed. Kevin could also help us on the mound as well. Jr. Rob Kurtz should be counted on to help on the mound and at lst base. Jr. John Osbourne should be solid in the
outfield and possibly on the mound. Sophomores T.J.Hoelzer, Zach Rogers, Kyle Lehning, Ben Brewer, and Ryan Emery could step up and help out.

Top Returning Pitchers
Josh Holt Sr. 9-2 ERA 1.26
Daniel Lyons Sr. 4-2 3 Saves ERA 3.09
Rob Kurtz Jr. Showed a lot of promise last year as a sophomore.

This year we will have to replace Taylor Merry a DLU signee who was 8-0 with a 1.18 ERA. Five other Srs. graduated who played key roles for us. Pitchers Chris Baumgartner and Zack Green.  Chris also played key roles for us last year in the infield and outfield. Jason Hull was an All District and All Region infielder and led our team in hitting. Blake Neelley was an All Dist-rict catcher for us who graduated. Patrick Saunders a starting first baseman also grad-uated. So we must put our defense together and develop some pitching depth. Some younger players are going to have to step up for offen-sively as well.

Hume Fogg     13-13                      1/26/07

12 Alex Porter         P/3B         4-4/44 K's,  .301/37 RBI
12 Alex Bray           P/CF         3-3 W/L
11 Tanner Lincoln    P/SS         3.42era,  .350/22 RBI
11 Phil Lovell           C              .371 26SB

These four will be the key to setting the tone in each game we play in.

Pitching:
They say good pitching wins ball games.  If we can go out and throw strikes and not beat our-selves we should be in a position to win some ball games. We have nine pitchers who will all see time on the bump at some point. The key will be our control along with the ability to throw strikes and get ahead in the count.
Defense:
If we can concentrate on making the routine plays on a consistent basis we will in good shape. We will be strong up the middle return-ing C Phil Lovell, SS Tanner Lincoln, and CF Alex Bray.
Offense:
We return 4 out of our top 5 in the lineup from last year’s squad; they will be the key to get-ting things started for us. I expect a much bigger production from our lineup this year.

We will be successful just by playing smart baseball.  We have to throw strikes, play solid defense, and find ways to get runners on base and make things happen offensively. We will also need some talented young guys to mature and fill the role of losing 6 seniors from last year’s squad.

Pat Hazen  Jr. OF/P R/R 286/1/25
2-1 2.92
Michael Jeppsen Jr. P/1B R/R 0-1-1 3.82

Pitching is going to be key. With the loss of 3 senior starters with a combined record of 16-6 and the loss of Madison Dobbs in a car wreck and the uncertainty of Pat Hazen, we need some players to really step up and fill lose voids.
Defense- I believe we could be pretty solid as long as we continue to work and get better each day.
Hitting- Always a concern. Never know until we start playing. We have lots of potential.
Baserunning- Pretty good team speed.

The Indians lost coach Brad Fraser but return 7 of  9 starters from last years State Tournament team. New head coach, Wade Walter inherits a club with 11 seniors returning, 10 of which have experience playing in district and region championship games, as well as the state tourn-ament. 4 juniors with game experience also return. Five seniors have either committed to a college or soon will. The Indians will be very experienced, with tons of leadership led by Birdwell and Pomeroy, who both signed with Trevecca in the fall.

Harpeth will be returning the number 2 and 3 pitchers this year with a lot of relief and help behind them. Fiser has become very mature on the mound, and increased in all aspects of the game. He is receiving looks from some very respected colleges. Hale has signed with Columbia St. and will be another threat on the hill with his confidence and ability to play the game. Harpeth will be very deep in pitch-ing, with a lot of experience in big game situations.

Keys To Success: "Lots of experience, Fielding, Baserunning, Pitching, Hitting, game Knowledge, and they play as a team. This senior class has made alot of noise, but yet have they made noise in the state tournament, and with their work ethic I look for them to make this season one to remember
," coach Wade Walter.

Montgomery Central finished 19-12 last year.
They will be led by 9 seniors whose leadership and work habits will make or break them this season. Cody Dunn, Benton Jackson, and Dusty Williams, who all made significant contribu-tions to the state tournament team as freshmen need to provide direction for this team. Underclassmen Neil Rye, Matt Drudy, Alec Mills, Monte Lafferty, Kyle Taylor, Bryce Neblett, Matt Sharp, Josh Baker, and Justin Saulsbury
will need to contribute to make this a success-ful season. A very difficult non-district schedule will try to prepare MCHS for the tough
district season.

Top Returning Players
Caleb Putnam, SS, .386, 12th
Cole Cassidy, CF, .304, 12th
Ryan Bledsoe, LF, .266, 11th
Devin Lyon,   RF, .241, 12th

We graduated a lot of our offense so we are going to need some others to step up and help Putnam and Cassidy. We need to find a lead-off hitter to help jump start the offense. I'm thinking that Bledsoe might be that guy. Who is going to hit clean-up is also a major concern.

Top Returning Pitchers
Devin Lyon, 4-1, 4.20, 12th
Jarrod Mohrmann, 2-0,4.20, 11th
Matt Adkison, 1-0, 6.00, 10th

We only have one starting pitcher with much varsity experience as we graduated our top three pitchers from last year. Lyon will have to carry the load early as the others gain some experience.

We are going to have to play solid defense to give ourselves a chance this year. We can't afford to give up a lot of runs because we may have a tough time scoring ourselves.  I'm hoping the pitching will develop as the season goes along.

After losing offensive leader Johnny Garland (Martin Methodist) many different players will have to step up to carry this team through a tough district and a even tougher non-district schedule. Many young players will be called upon right away to make major contributions to the success of this team.

With the rotation of Dunn, Brown, and Branham mainly being district starters many young pitchers will log a large amount of innings during non-district and tournament games. There are a total of 6 freshman pitchers and all have the ability to compete.

A major key for us this year will be the devel-opment of our young position players and pitch-ers early in the season.

The keys for success this season is to play solid defense and not beat ourselves. Our pitching will keep us in ball games and always give us a chance to win. With an extremely young team younger players will have to step up, which is usually the case in AA baseball.
