DB's top returning players from last
years team include Dylan Pratt-Senior(.506 .667OBP 15 HR 41 RBI), Dustin
Ford-Senior(.360 36H 4 HR), Josh Aldridge-Senior(.359 9 2B), Nick
Caldwell-Senior (.289 4 HR), and Jordan Bowser-Senior.
"We will rely on the experience that our seniors have gained. The
experience they have attained will be key in playing in a very competitive
league. Our defense needs to improve if we hope to win games," said Coach
Rob Hoover. Offensively in 2006, Boone hit .331 as a team with 35 home
runs.

Dylan Pratt 2-2 2.95 ERA 21IP
Josh Aldridge 2-4 4.82 ERA 36IP
Nick Caldwell 1-2 5.70 ERA 27IP
Boone has six pitchers returning that have accumulated a number of varsity
innings. As a group, they have a chance to be good if the defense plays
well. "If we can make the routine play, we have a chance to win some
games. We have a number of returning starters who have had some success.
Our pitchers need to throw strikes and keep us in games," added Hoover.

The Indians return 12 seniors with ample playing experience. "If we play
with the same
intensity as we have the last two years we
should be fine. Our expectations are high," said Indian skip Mike Ritz.
Ritz continued, "However, to be successful in the post season we must
pitch, and play defense as well or better than our regular season." The
downfall of the Indian past has been the inability to hit the pitching
they have faced in the late rounds of tournament play. "To be really
successful in the post-season our team must hit the best pitchers," added
Ritz. Sullivan South 19-15
1/26/07 We have several returning
players from last year that got much needed experience. Seth
Johnson(11)SS.360,Tyler Ball(11)2B.350,Ben Daniels(11)C.340,Seth
Pearson(12)DH.313. Each of these players will play a big role in our
season being successful.
We are returning three of our top four pitchers from last year. Weston
Carr(11)5-1,Josh Beding-field(12)3-1, Tyler Ball(11)4-3. With the bulk of
our innings pitched last year, these three should be ready to perform and
succeed this coming season.
Replacing five starters from last year will be a challenge, but all the
players have worked hard and are ready to accept the challenge. Our
success will be according to how well our newcomers step up and fill the
roles of last years starters. I believe we have a chance to be better than
last year, but the conference is going to be much tougher. A group of
players have decided to return after taking a year off, these players
could have a positive impact on this years team. If we stay healthy, we
can
compete with everyone in our conference.

Karns 28-12
1/8/07 The Beavers return
six starters from the 2006 squad. Tytus Moss (outfielder), a returning
senior, will be leaving us for the Air Force Academy, and we'll rely
heavily upon him for his leadership capabilities. Also, seniors John
Briegel(catcher), Jeremy Monroe (P/IF), Corey Hunt (OF), and Russ Hill
(Pitcher/OF),
will all be called upon to lead this young bunch of guys.
This team returns five people who earned time on the mound for us last
season. However, those five pitchers only combined to throw sixteen
percent of our 210 innings played last year. Jeremy Monroe, Brian
Fogarty, and Russ Hill all made contributions last year, and we expect
them to be in the mix with other pitchers like Coty Pate, Jonathan Prior,
Mike Besancenez, Jimbo Cooper, and Jacob Kowalski. "We need to find out
who wants to pitch for us, and let them go out and get the job done," said
coach John Rice.
"We will have to find an identity. With so many young players, leadership
will play an import-ant role in the development of our team. As many young
teams do, it is quite likely that we experience some growing pains, but I
believe that we'll get better each week. We have some young players who
need to be impact players, and it is always a strange proposition when one
must count on the young. However, we have hard-working, capable young men
who have dedicated themselves to a goal. Hopefully we can achieve that
goal," added Rice. West 16-16
1/18/07 West is returning several
key players for the 2007 season. West will likely start 9 Juniors with a
mixture of one or two Freshmen. Several of the Juniors have been starting
since they were Freshmen. Jake Ryan and Robbie Hopkins have been the 1 and
2 guys since they were Freshmen. Matt Michalik will make a position change
to center field this season. This should be a great move defensively for
the team. Will Coley- C and Michael Howard- 3B are very strong defensively
and will likely be the 3 and 4 hit-ters in the lineup. Our Middle infield,
all JR's, will consist of transfer- Michael Stephens, Eric Cole, and Jake
Ryan. All three are very versatile & have varsity experience. Blake
Marshman- 1B really needs to step up and play the position that was
vacated by an excellent defensive player last season. We will
be looking for contributions from Varsity new-comer Jack Hutcheson
JR/P-OF. Sophomores Casey Spradlin and Justin Kirkpatrick could feel
holes and contribute at the Varsity level. Freshmen Will Chesney
P/IF/OF and John Can-trell P/C, will have to step up and contribute
this year.
Our biggest strengths this season should be experience and offense.
As Sophomores, Will Coley .410, Michael Howard .375, and Matt
Michalic .385 provided the majority of our offense. They look to
continue in this role as Juniors. The remainder of the lineup is also
going to be pretty strong. Team chemistry is very strong. West is
unselfish and motivated by winning. Scoring runs should not be a problem.
As a whole, West is very fast, savvy, and aggressive on the bases.
Not really a weakness, but pitching experience is a concern. We have a
deep lineup, but not all have the experience at the varsity level.
We will look for quality innings out of new-comers Jack Hutchison, Justin
Kirkpatrick, Blake Marshman, and Will Chesney.
"The key for West to win in a very tough dis-trict is to play hard and
focused for 7 inn-ings. We have to execute plays, put the ball in play,
and use our strengths to our advantage," added coach Jeffrey Wright.
Halls 23-11
1/23/07 After losing 15 seniors
the last two season's, the Red Devils are looking to rebuild. Most of the
load will fall on the shoulder's of Sr's, Brent Perry-SS(.314BA),Mitchell
Davis-C/2b and Spencer Fielden-Of. A talented junior class will have
to step up and grow up fast. The top
junior's include Of's Tyler Brock .351 avg, Daniel Dayton .313 avg, Gary
Cooper .292
avg, David White. Infielder's include Jr.'s Quentin Bowman .276 avg.,
Austin Noe, Tyler
Clifton and Ethan Long. Two very talented sophomore's, C-J.D.Wallace and
utility player Tyler Turner are also expected to battle for playing time.
The Red Devils will depend on a very young pitching staff. Sr., Spencer
Fielden-19.2
IP,1-1 record and 2.14 ERA,Jr's John Clarke-16.1 IP,3-1 record,3.86
ERA,Gary Cooper-17.1 IP,0-2 record,7.27 ERA, David White 8.1 IP,0-1
record,2.52 ERA and Daniel Dayton 2.1 IP.
The key for Halls will be how fast the pitching staff can develop. The
Devils must come to the park ready to get better, be consistent and
motivated. Central (Knoxville)
22-10
1/26/07 Central looks to replace 9
seniors from a successful 2006 season. Matthew Harrell (OF,Jr) is the only
returning starter for the Bobcats. Open positions will be filled by
many inexper-ienced players. Offense will be hard to come by this season
as many of the new guys have little or no varsity experience. The defense
could be
better than last with routine plays being made more consistently.
The bright spot for the Bobcats could be the pitching staff. They return
several pitchers who threw last season for the varsity. They also welcome
some fresh arms from the sophomore class. Ben Booker (Sr.), Michael Nipper
(Jr.),
Matthew Harrell (Jr.) and Matt Beard (Sr.) will anchor the pitching staff.
The key to the season is growing up quickly. The pitching and
defense need to be good enough to keep us in games until we can figure out
how to score enough runs to win. No matter what happens, no one will feel
sorry for the Bobcats. Oak Ridge 18-17
1/30/07 The top returning players
for Oak Ridge this spring are Sr Shortstop Aaron Vargas (.386, .540 OBP,
30SB, 40R), Jr Catcher Mason Guymon (.294), Sr Utility man Brian Solmonson
(.261) and Sr Second Baseman Michael Foxworth (.253, 62b, 2HR). The
Wildcats anticipate relying heavily on the lead-off abilities of Vargas,
and also antici-pate an offensive "rebound" season from Michael Foxworth.
Questions abound around the field, as Oak Ridge lost six 2006 regular
starters to graduation (64% of all of 2006's At-Bats). The largest
questions abound in the outfield, where all 3 regular starters graduated.
The only certainties are that Vargas is expected to spend most of his time
at short-stop, Foxworth will likely be camped at second base, and Guymon
will often be found behind the plate.
Oak Ridge returns their top two pitchers from a year a ago in Junior
Jonathan Brent (5-2, 2.29 ERA) and Sophomore Cody Williamson (1-5, 3.59
ERA). They will also rely heavily on Senior Tim Younkin on the mound. A
host of other pitchers, both young and old, will be expected to log
quality innings for Oak Ridge. Don't be sur-prised to see regular position
guys Vargas and Foxworth get into the pitching act.
Although Oak Ridge does not have one incredibly dominant starting pitcher,
they'll likely find ways to compete on the mound. Keys for success will
include their ability to produce runs, and production (both offensively
and defensively) from the newcomers in their outfield. Oak Ridge needs a
big year from Michael Foxworth in the
middle of their line-up, and will need to receive a spark from one of the
following:
a.) a veteran player who is just now getting a chance to showcase
his abilities
b.) one of the members of Wildcats' talented freshman class
OR
c.) an incoming senior who has spent a year or two away from the
baseball team.
The early spring should be very interesting around Hopkins Field, and it
should answer a lot of questions about Oak Ridge baseball. Clinton
15-20
2/27/07
In the 2007 season, our top returning
players will be Sr's Andrew Shoemaker and Bubba Owens. Shoemaker will be
used on the mound also at first base & in the corner outfield positions.
Owens will be in the middle of the field whether its on the mound or at
second, short, or center. Last year Shoemaker tied for second on the all
time school record with 12 doubles, while having 20 R,40 H, 380 BA, and
making all conference. Owens last year, was apart of the all conference
and two way team, while having 33 R, 35 H, 7 2B, 17 BB, and school record
39 SB, while also going 6-2 with a 1.77 ERA in 55.3 IP.
The keys to this years success will be how well our defense prevents big
innings, how well our offense executes situational baseball, also how well
our pitchers develop with little exper-ience. |

Team Previews Morristown West
23-13
3/1/07 We have 3 Senior starters
returning from last year's team (23-13, 2-AAA champs). They are Austin
Bridgewater OF (.413,12-2B,5-HR,40 rbi, 39 R), Brett Conley SS (.220,.989
FP), and Daniel Vick C (.284,6-2B,17 rbi, 24 R). We also have 5 Juniors
that saw a lot of playing time last season. They are Erik Hazelwood
1B/3B
(.402, 14-2B, 3-HR, 38 rbi), Kevin McDonald 3B, Tyler Raines OF, Logan
Welch OF, and Logan Wild IF (.290, 5-2B, 16 rbi).
We return 3 of our top 5 pitchers from last season. Austin
Bridgewater (54.1, 1.55, 5-3) will have a shot to leave West as the
winning-est pitcher in school history if he can build off last year's
solid performance. Logan Wild (50, 3.50, 7-3) is also back this season but
will be delayed in making an appearance on the mound because of an
off-season shoulder injury. He is expected to be okay by the first of
April. Also Kevin McDonald (17.1, 3.23, 2-1) has looked much improved this
pre-season and
will definitely carry a larger load on the mound this season. Along with
these 3 young men, Hazelwood, Raines, and Conley will round up our
pitching staff. The keys for success for this year's Trojan ball club will
be twofold. First, we must get consistent performances from
our deeply talented pitchers and hitters. Second, we will have to
play better defensively if we hope to improve on the region birth from
last season. Overall, this a very good team on paper, but only time will
tell if these guys can convert their talents into performances on the
field. If they do, this could be a very
special year for the Trojan Nation Baseball program. Cherokee
11-19
3/12/07 The Chiefs look to build
on an exciting year from last year’s team. “We have everybody back,”
skipper Kevin Helton said. “I did not loose a team member and we have
added some new faces to the roster.” Helton said.
The KEY to this years success will be two fold. Team chemistry is the main
one. We have to play together or we will fold. Pitching has always been
our worst problem, not having enough. We will look to Trey McMillan to
lead the way this year. Ethan Blair, Ezra Helton, Chase Quarles, Darren
Haun, Timmy Ivey, and new comer Jed Fisher will round out the staff with a
few others in the mix. Defense should be our strong
point. The infield will look the same as the past two years. T.J. Payne(
12 .388 , four year starter), will anchor at catcher, Brent Carmack
(12,.385)at third, Chase Quarles(12 .403,23SB) at SS, Micheal Godsey
(11,.301) at 2b, First base will depend who is pitching that night. Trey
McMillan (12 ,.298) Ezra Helton (11,.401) and new comer Jed Fisher will
cover the right side of the field. The OF will be controlled by SR’s,
Justin Ferrell in center and Darren Haun in left. Right field is a toss
up. Ethan Blair (11), Brian Hake(10), or Colmen Elliott(10) will see time
out there.
The Chiefs have six seniors that come back for their fourth and final stay
at Big Red Valley. “We hope we can give them something to leave with.”
Coach Helton said.

Bearden 29-11
Our top returning position player
will be senior SS, Justin Miller(403avg/7Hr/43rbi’s. Justin will be
looked upon to lead a young offense and a very young defense. Other
return-ing players to lineup will be Taylor Gouffan (Jr/OF), Garrett
Copeland(So/OF), and Matthew Scruggs(Jr/OF), each of these players will
looked upon for increased offensive production. A big addition to lineup
will be Dawson Halliday(Jr/3b) returning to us from last years season
ending ankle injury. Several positions are still up in the air, probably
the person that hits will end up playing. Catching will be handled mostly
by Jonathan Byrd (Jr/trnsfer), who I feel will be an asset to our team
defensively.
One of our strengths in the 07 campaign will be pitching depth. We return
our top 6 pitchers. Andy Fennell (Jr/RHP/9-2), Garrett Copeland (LHP/So/8-2),Hunter
Daniel (LHP/Jr/6-1), Drake Little(Sr/RHP/3-2), Josh Hullett(LHP/Jun/3-0),
and Taylor Gouffan(RHP/Jr) will anchor a staff that we have big
expectations for. Taylor Gouffan will mostly assume closing and relief
duties. Drake Little has had a tremendous off season and will be expected
to lead this pitching staff. 2007 will be a completely different looking
team compared to the 06 team. With the graduation of three of the best
bats in the area,(Kendale Roach, Wayne Miller, and
Kendal Wells) our offense I think is going to be our relative weak point.
However,if we play good defense, and play small ball, I think our pitching
can carry us. I think early we will definitely have some growing pains,
but hope-fully by the end we will come together and be competitive in a
very difficult district. Heritage
11-20
1/20/07 Aaron Johnson-
Aaron is our senior shortstop. Last year he batted .411 with 37
hits, 9 2b, 1 hr, 17 bb, 17 rbi's, 25 runs, and 12 stolen bases.
Clinton Helton- Clinton is a senior who was our #1 Pitcher last year when
he compiled a record of 3 wins and 4 losses with 29 k's, and an ERA
of 4.17.
Josh Carico- Josh is a junior this year and will be our #2 pitcher
in the rotation. Last year he had a record of 2 wins and 3 losses.
He had 20 k's and had an ERA of 3.54.
Justin Montgomery- Justin is a sophomore out-fielder who was a lead off
batter last year. He batted .286 with 14 hits, 2 2b's, 2hr's, 8rbi, and 12
runs.
Brandon Reed- Brandon is a junior who was our DH last year and will be our
first baseman this year. Last year he batted .315 with 17 hits, 4 2b's,
and 8 rbi's.
Top Returning Pitchers
Clinton Helton (Senior)
Josh Carico (Junior)
Trey McClanahan (Senior)
"Our key to success this year is going to be our pitching staff and how
well they react to the challenges ahead of them. We have to have some
players step up this year on the mound and in the batter's box. Confidence
is the main key, said Heritage skipper Robbie Bennett.
Farragut State Champions 30-16
1/22/07 The 07 Admirals will be a
very young team with only one returning senior starter. We also will play
probably the most challenging schedule we have ever played. If we can
survive our sched-ule and learn to play the game at a high level then
hopefully we will be ok by tournament time. Barton Ivy (2B) is our lone
returning senior starter. He is a very good player who I will look toward
for leadership. Our 3 other seniors, Perry Griffin(P/1B), Stephen
Guerrette (OF), and Jordan Pleasant(IF/P) will all be fighting for
positions. Other players who contributed last year are Juniors Matt Ramsey
(p/cf), Zack Allen (c/of), Joey Delmonico (dh), and Michael Williams (c).
Soph's who contrib-uted are Curt Powell(SS) & Cade Stallings(3B).
On the mound we last a lot of innings and wins from last year. How quick
our young guys mature will determine how well we will be able to compete.
The major contributors returning from last year are Matt Ramsey (jr),
Shane Glarrow (jr), Hunter Newby (jr), Perry Griffin (sr), Jordan Cooper
(so), Mack Thoreson (so), Cade
Stallings (so). Others who we hope will help are Alec Tarrant (jr), Chris
Hatfield(jr), Ryan Burnett (jr), and Sam Thomas (so).
Our keys to success will be 1)how quickly our pitching staff develops, 2)
learning to play the game at a high level on a daily basis, 3) chemistry,
4) finding an identity offensively. Maryville
12-20
1/23/07 The Red Rebels have their
top 2 returning pitchers back for the 2007 Season. Drew Holt (Jr) compiled
a 4-5 record last year and a 4.04 ERA with a 2.5/1 strikeout to walk
ratio. The slender right hander mixes his pitches well and has an
outstanding curve ball. The Rebels other big gun will be Caleb Penley (Sr).Penley,
a hard throwing right hander compiled a 3-5 record with 2 saves ,ERA 4.15
and also had a
2.5/1 strikeout to walk ratio. Penley's best game last season was a 2-0
loss to State Champion, Farragut, in the District tournament. Other
pitchers expected to contribute are Caleb West (Jr), Alex Bush (Sr) and
Drew Tinker (So). The Rebels struggled offensively last year but are
expected to be much improved this season. A
few returning starters and an outstanding group of young players will make
up the Rebel line-up. Zach Connell (.405) and Alex Bush (.231) will again
share catching duties. Louis Darras (.353) will be back as the DH and may
play some 1st base. Joseph Miranda (.262) returns at 3rd base. Ben Bryan
who has struggled for average but has been a top RBI guy the last 2 years
returns to play 2nd base. The other starters will come from the JV ranks
of a year ago. That team won over 25 JV games last season. The pro- gress
of the young players mixed in with a veteran pitching staff have the Red
Rebels in their best position since a sub-state appear-ance in 2003. The
Rebels will be more athletic and should improve greatly on defense which
should help a solid pitching attack. A new baseball facility and a better
overall outlook have the Rebels looking forward to an exciting 2007
Season. Lenoir City 14-24
1/26/07 The Panthers return nine
letterman and seven starters from a very young team. Those players include
Josh Gardner-C/JR, Justin Farrington-2B/SR, Josh Harvey-SS/JR, Will
Ervin-3B/SR, Skylar Kinsey-Util/JR, Steven Lovelace-OF/SO, Nathan
Turner-OF/JR and Matt Ezell OF/SO. The return of Andrew Shaver-1B/SR and
Justin Kinsey/JR should help. Transfer Tanner Knott/SO should also help
the lineup. Several freshman have a chance to contribute and will push the
older players for opportunities.
Lenoir City returns almost half of their inn-ings pitched a year ago. Will
Ervin 37.2 IP-24Ks, Josh Harvey 7.2 IP-11Ks , Steven Lovelace 20 IP-14Ks,
Justin Farrington 12.1 IP-7Ks, Nathan Turner, Tanner Knott and Justin
Kinsey should all get work on the mound.
The keys to success with this team will be focusing for seven innings and
believing in themselves and each other to bring out their potential.
William Blount 23-12
1/30/07 The Governors of 2007
return four seniors who played a valuable part of an offense that hit .332
with 34 homeruns and 221 RBIS. Login Goodin [C -.367 6HRS 23RBI], Cory
Endsley [3b/ DH-.340 1HR 12RBI], Andrew Clabough [LF-.348 6 HR 33RBI], and
All Region infielder Morgan Costner [1B-.432 5HR 38 RBIS] make up the
Governor's returning Senior group.
Underclassmen starters returning are Aaron Garland [JR/SS- .289 3HR
17RBI], Tyler Burstrom [Junior 3B-.250 1HR 12 RBI], and Travis Webb [Jr,CF-.308
1HR 3RBI.
Senior Joe Dempsey, Jr's Mitchell Howard, Mac Mcord, Chase Helton, Nathan
Chapman, Adam Crisp, Kevin Houser, and Sophomore Michael Cunningham will
compete for openings in the 2007 lineup.
The Governor pitching staff of 2007 returns three pitchers who
started 24 of the Govs 34 games in 2006. Senior Mark Mcgill [7-2 2.47ERA
68IP 73K], Junior Tyler Burstrom [7-2 3.02 49IP 41K], and Junior
Aaron Garland [4-1 2.66 29IP 21 K] will form the nucleus of the Governor
rotation. Competing for the fourth spot in
the rotation will be Senior Andrew Clabough, Juniors Kevin Houser, Travis
Webb, Mitchell Howard, and Adam Crisp.
The keys for success for the Governors in 2007 will be how the middle of
our lineup handles the tough left handed pitching that is present in our
district this year. Also, have the pitchers after our top three developed
enough to contribute successfully at the varsity level. South

2/14/07 We have 10 returning
seniors. Unfortunately, preseason all-american Cody Hawn is lost for
the season with an acl injury. It will be interesting to see how the
offense plays with-out his bat in the middle. Our seniors are: Ryan
Holland p-1b,Chad Bell p-1b, Chris Turpin 2b, David Fear p-inf., Chad
Zurcher ss, Andy Delaere c, Matt Roberts p-of, Bryce Brentz p-of, Jacob

For us to be successful in district 4, we must 1. overcome the loss of a
great kid and leader in Cody Hawn.
2. our pitchers must pitch like they are capa-ble of pitching, and 3. we
must win "the" game. |
