EAST REGION PREVIEWS
Knoxville Webb 20-11
1/4/07
Webb will rely on
several talented but inexperienced players to step up this season.
Look for the Spartans to use a variety of line-ups and pitchers early in
the season as they build for the end of the year tournament.
Seniors A.J. Kirby-Jones and Bo Johnson will be counted on heavily for
leadership and produc-tion. Both have several years of experience against
high level competition.
Returning Starters-
AJ Kirby-Jones- Senior---1b/3b
Bo Johnson- Senior--- ss/of
Returning Pitchers-
AJ Kirby-Jones- Senior RHP
Steele Taylor- Junior RHP
After losing 4 senior pitchers to graduation, Webb will be looking for
some young arms to step up and complete the rotation.
Other Returning Lettermen-
Sean Purdy- Senior of
Chad Manning- Senior of/inf
Will Strickland- Senior of
Jason Berube- Freshman c
The keys to success for the Spartans will be:
1) development of their pitching staff
2) inexperienced players gaining experience during the season and learning
what it takes to be successful.
3)Players building a positive team chemistry and settling in to their
roles within the team concept.
Baylor 37-9 State Champions
3/1/07
We were hit hard
by graduation, losing 7 of our 9 starting hitters, 5 of our 8 defensive
play-ers, and all of our top 4 pitchers. However, I still feel we
have a chance to be competitive. We now have Tyler Massey, a junior
first baseman/pitcher, who transferred from MUS when his father became our
new head football coach. At present, our lineup looks something like
this:
C - Andy Shuford, Brady Reed
1B - Tyler Massey, Cody McGee
2B - Isaac Edmonds
SS - Zeth Stone
3B - James Feher, Trey Stansell
OF - Will Weeks, Nic Baker, Dylan Craig, Riley Dyer
P - Tyler Massey, James Feher, Trey Stansell, Cody McGee, Zeth
Stone, Dylan Craig,
Jim Franklin, Dylan Prater
Zeth Stone, Tyler Massey, and Will Weeks all had good hitting seasons last
year and are expected to lead us, offensively. We should be adequate,
defensively, with our biggest ques-tion mark being pitching. Several
of the abovementioned pitchers showed potential last season, and I am
hoping that three or four of these will emerge to provide the consistency
needed to make us a contender in our region.

Returning Starters
Josh McKinney (SR) SS .358 9-2B
Mike Olingy (SR) 2B .306 20 RBI's
BJ Coleman (SR) 6-3 3.15
Brogan Jayne (SR) 3-4 2.77
Daniel Fisher (SR) 3-2 2.15
McCallie lost a true mainstay in Tanner Moore and the have 5 seniors back
to lead the Tornado. Starting pitching will be the key to the season. BJ
Coleman leads the staff. The team should be strong in the middle with
middle infield tandem of McKinney and Olingy.
