"I was very impressed with CA this morning as they played all three areas of the game well - pitching, defense, and hitting. Talyor Hill gave
up some hits early which was fine, and the game just got away from us
in the 5th and 6th innings. We just didn't help him ourselves
defensively nor offensively. Defensively, we did not take care of the ball well, and offensively, we did not make the necessary adjustments. Chad Hunter was a bright spot going 2-3 and scoring our only run. We have to remember that this is new to fifteen out of the eighteen players with us, and when you have Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, Kentucky, Memphis, MTSU,
Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Southern Miss, Tennessee, and others sitting behind the backstop watching you along with the outstanding competition, it allows for some jitters. Now that we have our first game under our belts, I expect us to be a bit more relaxed and respond positively against Missouri this afternoon."

"I was curious to see who we would respond this afternoon, and the
boys responded very well in the second game as they seemed more relaxed
and anxious to get in the win column. Michael Park threw well throwing a
complete game while allowing only three hits. Defensively, we did a
good job of taking care of the ball as Adam McClain showed excellent range at 2B along with Golden Tate making a great diving catch coming in on a ball in centerfield. Offensively, I thought we swung the bats much
better. Blake Forsythe (3-3 w/3 doubles and a rbi) and Logan Darnell (2-3
w/an rbi) came up big for us, and then we were able to pick up an
additional four hits in the process. Cody Hawn was also 2-4. As well, we were more aggressive with our base stealing and were able to get some runners in scoring position. All in all, I was very pleased."

"We came out today and beat an undefeated Texas team with sound pitching and hitting. Sonny Gray was fun to watch throwing 91-94 and pitched
three shutout innings allowing only one hit. We were able to give him an
early lead putting up six runs in the top of the first as I was very
pleased with the approach our hitters exemplified at the plate. Clayton
Gant led the game off with a HR and that really set the tone as Zurcher,
Hawn, Darnell, Kirby-Jones, and McClain all followed with base-hits.
After putting up a single run in the top of second, we answered with
eight runs on six hits including a home run from Justin Miller. AJ
(Kirby-Jones) and Austin (Bridgewater) were able to get some work in and did a good job to close out the game."

"We jumped out quickly scoring three runs in the top of the first with
Justin Miller leading the game off with a single, Chad Hunter reaching
on an error, then Cody Hawn following with a home run. However,
Oklahoma really slowed down the pace of the game and did a good job of
responding each time we put up runs. Ryan Holland battled on the mound in his five innings of work as Oklahoma made it hard for him to get a good
rhythm by stepping out of the box often, and we made some mistakes as
well. Marcus Barnes did a good coming in relief in the top of the sixth
with a two run lead. Logan Darnell had a big game at the plate with a
single, double, and triple. Chad Zurcher was solid at shortstop, and Justin and Adam (McClain) turned a nice double play to end the game with the tying and go ahead runs on first and second."

"Today's game versus Georgia was very similar to our game last night
against Oklahoma (Blue). We jumped out early in the bottom of the first
3-0 when Justin Miller reached on a base on balls, Blake Forsythe was
hit by a pitch, and Cody Hawn followed up with a home run. I thought
Logan Darnell threw the ball very well; however, Georgia made some good
adjustments hitting the ball where it was pitched. After going up 5-0,
Georgia answered with five runs of their own to tie the game. Logan
(Darnell) helped himself out by hitting a solo home run to put us back up
6-5. Like Oklahoma, Georgia would answer, and with the game tied 7-7 going into the bottom of the sixth, Justin got us going with a double base then Chad Zurcher followed with a bunt base hit and stolen base. With runners on second and third, Chad Hunter got us a big, two-rbi single to put us up 9-7. Logan got the first batter in the top of the seventh to ground out, then Clayton Gant came in and closed the game out with two strikeouts."

"Seth Lintz threw the ball very well today. He threw 5 innings allowing 
only two runs. Thankfully, we swung the bats well too totalling twenty 
hits for the game. It's hard to signal out any one or two players as 
seven out of our nine starters had at least one hit. Chad Hunter and Cody 
Hawn totalled six hits between them. Blake Forsythe, AJ Kirby-Jones, 
and Chad Zurcher picked up two hits apiece. Golden Tate stole three bases 
and played a big role in us putting runs on the board. In the sixth, I 
think the boys relaxed and lost their focus a bit, and I compliment 
Mississippi for continuing to play the game hard as we were up 14-2. AJ 
(Kirby-Jones) came in relief, and we did not execute well from a pitching 
and defensive standpoint. After some hard hit balls, fielding and 
throwing errors along with three walks, and two hit batters, Mississippi 
pulled within three runs at 14-11. Clayton Gant came in and did a great 
job in relief to hold Mississipi in check and then allowing us to put up 
a couple of insurance runs in the top of the seventh. After a lead off 
single in the bottom of the inning, Clayton turned up the heat and used 
an effective slider to strike out the next three batters to end the 
game."

"We came out swinging the bats well and put three runs on the board in
the top of the first. Justin Miller, Chad Zurcher, Chad Hunter, Cody
Hawn, AJ Kirby-Jones, and Logan Hostettler all had hits to give us the
early 3-0 lead. As well, Golden Tate had two stolen bases, but we were
unable to get him across the plate. I thought Oklahoma's pitcher threw
well, and he quieted our bats down after that shutting us out the rest of
the way. Clayton (Gant) started the game for us and did a good job
giving us three plus innings of work. He gave up four runs as well as some hits, but I certainly could not ask for more from Clayton as he was big for us with two saves earlier in the tournament. Marcus Barnes came in relief and got us out of jam but a wild pitch with two outs in the
fifth allowed Oklahoma an insurance run to put them up 5-3. After an inning and a third of work, Austin Bridgewater came in and held Oklahama in check with one inning of relief, but it was simply a matter of us not
getting enough hits to win the game. We are in great shape pitching-wise
for Tuesday and Wednesday, so hopefully, we can get our bats going again
as we need two wins to get in the Championship game at this point in
time."

"It was a game where the players came out a bit flat, and I know it
wasn't intentional as you could feel them trying to get themselves kick
started, but we (coaches) anticipated this as day five is the toughest
day of the tournament due to it being games eight and nine, fatigue, and
the battling of banged up players. Therefore, we (coaches) had to be
the vocal ones, and the boys responded well and won a big game for us.
Canada came out swinging the sticks early jumping out to a 2-0 lead. We
would answer with two of our own, but Canada would respond again with
two runs. With Canada up 4-2, Logan Darnell led off the bottom off the
fourth with a hit by pitch, and this seemed to spark our players as we
would answer with two runs of our own to tie the game at 4-4. Taylor Hill
battled for us on the mound, and after Canada put up four runs, he
quieted their bats and did exactly what we needed him to do as he was on a limited pitch count. Once Taylor reached his limit, Sonny Gray came in
relief and got us a ground ball that allowed for a big double play as
well as us putting up a zero in the visitor's column. From that point
on, it was a team effort up and down the line-up that contributed to us
scoring an additional four runs. If I had to signal out one player, it
would be Golden Tate as his energy and performance at the plate really
stood out in our (coaches) minds. Once we got the lead, Sonny did his
job much like Clayton Gant earlier in the week holding Canada's bats in
check and allowing us to pick up our sixth win of the series."

"Our game against Arizona was simple: win and your in the Championship 
game; lose and your playing in the Fifth Place game. We decided to 
start Sonny Gray since he was loose and warm knowing that he would be 
limited in his work. After a base on balls and a base hit, Arizona would go 
up 1-0 on a passed ball in the top of the first. We would not answer in 
the bottom of the inning, and I really thought our approach at the 
plate was poor for the first four innings. Sonny would do a great job for 
us throwing four innings and keeping the game at 1-0. In the top of the 
fifth, Michael Park would come in relief. My biggest concern was the 
game early had the same feeling as last year's game where our pitching 
was solid but our bats just couldn't find the hits needed. Due to a 
position change earlier in the game, Michael (Park) had to remain in the 
line-up to hit, and he made it look like a good decision. With one-out in 
the bottom of the fifth and us only having one hit at the time, Michael 
would hit a 3-2 double to put a much needed runner in scoring position. 
With Clayton Gant courtesy running, Golden Tate would follow with a 
base hit to left center putting runners at first and third. Golden (Tate) 
would then steal second and put us in a position to score two runs on a 
single. With Justin Miller at the plate, Clayton (Gant) would score on 
a passed ball with Golden (Tate) coming all the way from second base to 
score on the errant throw from the catcher to the pitcher covering 
home. Again, a much needed spark that would result in us scoring five runs 
in the inning to go up 5-1. Michael (Park) would have a quick sixth 
inning getting us back in the dugout and up to the plate. With momentum 
still on our side, we would answer with two additional runs to go up by 
the final score of 7-1. It was another team effort, and the boys came 
together to get the job done. It was fun to see the excitement on their 
faces at the opportunity to play in the Championship game tomorrow 
night."

"I would like to congratulate Texas. They took advantage of some early
hits and miscues on our part along with an excellent pitching
performance tonight to win the Sunbelt Championship. Our boys battled, but we just got behind from the start and could not make up the difference with our bats totaling three hits for the game. Austin Bridgewater was our freshest arm and started the game, but after a couple of hits, misplayed balls, and a hit batter, we had to make a change. With the score 4-0 in Texas' favor, Michael Park did an outstanding job of throwing seven innings of one hit, shutout ball in relief. Blake Forsythe (2-3) hit a solo home run in the second inning that made the score 4-1, but from that point on, just as Michael, Texas' pitcher did a great job of silencing our bats. We just could not muster a threat outside of Golden Tate's bunt base hit and stolen base late in the game. I am extremely proud of how these players represented the state of Tennessee. Winning seven out ten games and earning a Runner-up finish in one of the premier tournaments in the country is nothing for them to hangs their heads at as the competition this year was excellent. It was an honor and priviledge for Coach Miller, Coach Ozment, and myself to coach these young men, and we hope they will look back on this event with fond memories as well as be great ambassadors for the TBCA and Team Tennessee."
