Greg Dennis - "
Columbia State has gotten off to a fine start
this year in conference and looks to be another tough Jim Painter-led team.
He usually always has good pitching and outstanding defense and hitting.
I am sure they will be fundamentally sound in all areas and looking to play
well in this home series after having last weekend off from the conference.
We must go out and continue to play the quality ball we have been playing in
the field and on the bump. Our offense has been both timely and explosive
and hopefully, we can continue that trend. Hopefully, our pitching
will do a better job of exploiting weakness' and competing in the zone. We must continue to compete in all 3 areas of the game and stay focused on the goal of winning this tough series on the road." |
Jim Painter - "Chattanooga State is a very tough team. They're playing as good or better than any team in the league. Player wise A.J. Morris, Matt Johns, Andy Simunic, and Rochester lead the offensive onslaught. Coleman McKellar, Cody Gossett and Mickey Campeanu are pitching well. We must play at our very best to compete with the Tigers." When we tried to get more from Coach Painter, he repeated, "no comment" | ||||||

Highlights -The Game turned into a pitching duel between McKellar and Stewart. In the top of the seventh Columbia State retired the first batter and seem to have the second batter but the umpire ruled that the first baseman didn't hold the throw long enough. After a five to ten minute discussion Stewart saw left fielder Chris Glass hit a one-one pitch over the left center field fence his first of the year, a two run blast, which turned out to be the game winner. |
