Mike Crossland - "
I know that Coach Reynolds will have his
team ready for their home opener in the conference. His team will
play hard and give us all that we want this weekend. After getting
beat pretty bad by this team in the fall I know what Southwest is capable
of doing on any given day. I look for a team to fight you tooth and
nail for the duration of the series. We must produce in RBI situations and
field alot better than we did last week versus Hiwassee. Our
pitchers must throw strikes and give us an opportunity to win. We have to play a more intense style of baseball than we have up to this point. I know that we are going to have our hands full as you do every weekend in this conference. I know that Southwest will come after us, the question is going to be, "How does my team respond to the first confer-ence road trip?" |
Bo Reynolds - "We
will have to play very well to compete with Volunteer State this weekend
something we haven't done very much have recently. I know Mike will bring his team in here ready to compete. He has a quality baseball team that I hope this weekend isn't the one they figure out they can be pretty good. We have to Play! No excuses! If we will just catch the routine groundballs and flyball we will have a chance. We have the ability to swing it pretty good at times but we need to do it more with men on base or with less than two outs. Our pitching has been pretty good at times and also awful at times. We have gone with out our #1 pitcher since the first week and we have been able to fight through that in some cases. We have proven that we can play with anybody we just need to play a complete game!" |

|
Game 1
Walters State 15 (11-0,3-0)
Motlow State CC 11 (3-7,0-4) TULLAHOMA – The No. 3 ranked team in the nation remain perfect with a 15-11 win over the Bucks of Motlow State Friday. The two teams combined for 26 runs on 33 hits. Jack Tilghman got the start and remains unbeaten as a Senator. He worked five and two-thirds innings giving up six runs on eight hits. He fanned three and walked a pair of batters. Adam Ray worked an inning and two thirds in relief. He gave up three runs on five hits. Ben Walker worked two-thirds innings and was perfect with a strikeout. Coty woods finished the game and gave up one run on one hit in one inning. RJ Schenk drove in four runs with a 3-6 performance. His RBIs came in consecutive innings with a two-run homer, his fourth, in the fourth and a two-RBI single in the fifth. Three other Senators homered in the contest. Stephen Shults hit his second of the year. Adam Stooksberry hit his second and Adam Milligan hit his fourth. “We hit the ball well today,” said head coach Ken Campbell. “We put up a lot of runs, but when you play a team like Motlow State , you have to. Our conference is known for its offensive ability.” The Bucks plated runs in all but two innings and never let Walters State have a comfortable lead. Jay Howard was 3-5 with a run driven in. David Dunlap drove in a pair going 3-5. Brett Seagroatt gave up 11 runs on 13hits in four and two-thirds innings. Joe Maciag entered the fourth and finished the game. He worked four and a third. He gave four runs on six hits with out a strikeout or walk. Game 2
Walters State 16 (12-0,4-0-0)
Motlow State CC 12 (3-8) Game 3
Walters State 6 (12-1,4-1)
Motlow State CC 7 (4-8) TULLAHOMA – The Walters State baseball team suffered its first loss Saturday, but not without a controversy. After taking the first two games, 15-11 and 16-12, of the three game conference series, they lost the third game 7-6 in a shorten game due to darkness. The bats were silent in the first three innings of the third game, and Motlow State took advantage by plating four runs. The Senators rallied in the fourth with five runs. Stephan Shults was hit by a pitch to lead the inning off, and Adam Stooksberry homered for two RBIs. Back to back singles by Nick Langley and Adam Milligan gave Chris Peterson the incentive to drive the ball out of the park for three RBIs and the comeback was complete. Motlow answered in the fourth. Three runs came across as Colby Killian gave up a pair of singles to Evan Webb and David Dunlap. Then two wild pitches brought Webb in to score. A single by Eric Oxley scored Dunlap. JB Skees replaced Killian in the fourth. Oxley moved to second on the third wild pitch of the inning. Oxley scored when Kyle Bowers singled. The Senators came within a run in the fifth when Matt Ford hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score Michael Wheeler. The Bucks failed to score in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth, Wheeler’s two run homer to give the Senators a one run lead was for naught. Shortly after the Senators took the lead, the umpires called the game “due to darkness”. The sixth inning was not completed and by rule was not allowed. The final complete inning was the fifth, leaving the Senators with their first loss of the season. In game one of Saturday’s doubleheader, Coty Woods got his first win of the season. Bobby Thompson got the start and went five innings. He gave up eight runs on eight hits. He fanned four batters and walked four. Jack Snodgrass worked the next two-thirds of an inning and gave up four runs. Woods earned the win by working one and a third innings allowing one walk. Nick Belcher was 2-4 with five RBIs. He homered in the third inning as part of an eight run inning for the Senators. Kyle Bailey took the loss working only two-thirds of an inning. Bowers was 3-4 with seven RBIs. Brady Goodman got the win in game two. He worked all five innings. He gave up six runs on five hits. Bowers was 2-3 with three RBIs. Killian took the loss working three and a third innings. He gave seven run on nine hits. Skees worked one and two-thirds innings giving up two hits. The Senator’s record stands at 12-1 (4-1). The Bucks are 3-7 (1-5). The Senators play the next five games at home. They host the Mountain Lions of Wilkes Community College Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10 the Senators will host the Eagles of Dyersburg State in a three game series. |

Hiwassee's starting pitcher went down with an injury early in the game and after that, the momentum of the game kept swinging back and forth. Although Cleveland State struggled a little bit on the mound, their offense came alive with the help of a VERY bad Hiwassee defensive performance. Timely hits by the Cougars along with 9 errors by Hiwassee, kept giving Cleveland State life and ultimately led them to victory. Hiwassee's offense led by Marty Parks and Gary Tucker kept Hiwassee in the game...somehow. Cleveland State never quit and by the end of the game, the Tigers could not overcome all of the errors and poor defensive play as Cleveland State pulled ahead in the top of the 8th. A well-deserved win for Cleveland State as they fought and competed their hearts out to win. Game 2 |
