Ken Campbell - "
This should be outstanding matchup this week
with Dyersburg. They are the team to beat right now in our league as Coach
White has them off to an undefeated start. We know they have a tremendous
group of experienced sophomores and a very talented group of freshmen as
well. They always play as hard-nosed as anyone in our league, so we know
these will be three tough games. It should be an exciting weekend of
baseball to watch as well. We have to pitch and play defense better than
we have thus far. Against a dangerous lineup like Dyersburg, if you don't
make your pitches and locate, they will beat you every time. With a lineup
like they have that is averaging over 10 runs per game, we can't give them
extra chances by making errors and mistakes. We
will need outstanding efforts from our three starting pitchers if we are
to have a chance against them this weekend." |
Robert White - "Walters
State is a well coached and disciplined team. They are strong in all
phases of the game and have depth at every position. I know Coach Campbell
and his Coaching Staff will have his players ready to play at home this
weekend. We must keep them from having that big inning. Our pitching
and defense has been our strengths so far this season. We must play with
more intensity than our opponent or we will get blown out. We have no
superstars and must turn these games into low scoring affairs." |

In the
first game of a three-game conference series, Senators and the Eagles of
Dyersburg State combined for 28 runs on 34 hits and nine home runs. In the
end, the No. 3 Senators out slugged the Eagles 16-12. The Senators improve
to 15-1. The Eagles take their first loss and go to 12-1. Jack Tilgh-man
got the start for the Senators and went three and one-third innings. He
gave up seven runs on five hits. Only three of his runs were earned. The
Senators committed six errors in the game, five while Tilghman was on the
mound. “I’m really happy with the win”, said Senators head coach Ken
Campbell. “The offense looked great. We hit the ball well and got runs
when we needed them, but we can’t commit six errors in a ball game and
expect to do well in this conference.” Michael Wheeler continued to swing
the hot bat for WSCC. He was 4-6 with a pair of homers and a double. He
had five RBIs. Matt Ford was 3-5 with a dinger and four RBIs. Stephan
Shults was 4-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Jonathan White took the loss for
Dyers-burg. Jarrett Sellers got the start. He was rocked in the first
inning for four runs on four hits. For the Eagles, Courtney Hardaway and
Trey Morrison were 2-4 with three RBIs each. They each had a home run. The
two teams will complete the three game series Saturday, March 3 with a
doubleheader. First pitch of game one is slated for noon. |
