Dan McShea - "Jackson
St has a talented team and I expect them to be a tough opponent. We must
put it all together. We have to put up runs but we also need good
pitching and defense as Jackson has some big numbers offensively." |
Steve Cornelison - "I
think Motlow will play extremely hard and based on the scores that I've
seen, they have a good offensive club. It's always a battle when Jackson
and Motlow play and I don't see any reason for this year to be different.
To be successful this weekend we must make routine plays. Our pitchers
must give our offense a chance and we must hit with runners in scoring
position." |

Highlights -A good old fashioned pitching duel. Both starting
pitchers were very
good today. Spencer Nelson threw a complete game only allowing three
hits against a
very powerful offense.
GALLATIN The Senators found themselves in
unfamiliar territory Friday as they battled with the Pioneers of Volunteer
State in a pitching duel. The Senators are averaging nearly 10 runs per
game (9.92) in the 2007 and plated a single run. They dropped the first
game of the three game series 2-1. The Senators are 21-3 (7-2).
Walters
State scored a lone run in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly to
centerfield by Nick Belcher. The Pioneers brought two runs across in the
seventh.
Spencer Nelson threw a
complete game for the win giving up one earned run on four hits. He
walked two batters and fanned seven. Stick Sinyard was 2-4 at the
plate. Pinch hitter, John Jones picked up the lone RBI scoring Brad
Cobb. Bo Cook scored earlier in the seventh on a wild pitch. Cobb
reached on an error and his run was unearned. Colby Killian (2-2) took the
loss for the Senators. He gave up two runs on five hits in seven innings
of work. He walked one batter and struck out four. Ben Walker worked the
final inning and was perfect fanning one batter. We got the game we were
looking for out of out pitching staff, said head coach Ken Campbell. It
just happened to be on a day when our opponent had great pitching. I
thought Colby (Killian) did a great job for us today, but so did Nelson.
The Senators complete the three game series with the Pioneers Saturday,
March 17 at noon with a doubleheader.

Highlights -Rodriguez was one out away from a no hitter when a bloop
single fell in
front of Luke Putnam. Columbia's offense came alive today like we
hoped it would
all year. Brian Dirheimer hit his 2nd home run off the series in the
first inning
that kept the spark alive.
Series Highlights - Great pitching
from Gardner and Rodriguez gave the Chargers a
chance along with good defense and good hitting. The game winning
homer was a tough
blow for Hiwassee as Columbia came alive in game three and swung the bats
very well. |
