K-9 Save- LP- Mick Petree HR- Cade Stallings Top Hitters (Name, H-AB, etc) Team Tennessee faced defending champion Missouri Friday afternoon and pulled out a close one riding the arm of sophomore Carter Watson (Seigel) and the bat of Cade Stallings (Farragut). Watson dominated the Missouri hitters with a fastball that was consistently 88-89 combined with a nasty change-up. Watson threw the second complete game of the tournament and finished with 9 strikeouts. The Tennessee bats stayed cold until the 5th. Daniel Norris (Science Hill) led off the inning with an infield single with Ryan Seaton reaching base via hit-by-pitch. Cade Stallings revealed he can perform on the big stage when he sent a pitch sailing over the left centerfield wall for a 3-run shot. Stallings homerun would be the only runs scored. Tennessee played good defense down the stretch especially Hunter Atkins (Red Bank) who made a diving catch in the outfield to preserve the victory. Tennessee plays talented Texas and Oklahoma today. |

The game was back and forth until Texas scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 6th to seal the victory. Offensively Tennessee was led once again by Cade Stallings (Farragut) who was 2-3 with a double and a homerun and 3 RBI. Stallings homerun was a missile that sailed 400+ feet. Ricky Coleman (Univ. School Nashville) had a double while Ethan Gross (Mt. Juliet) went 1-3 with 2 RBI. Jordan Cooper (Farragut) did not have his best stuff, but pitched well enough to keep the game close. Jordan Cooper (Shelbyville) came on in relief and displayed a fastball that was 88-93 but it was not enough to contain the Texas bats. Chase Brookshire relieved Cooper and pitched well but an error led to some extra runs for Texas. |

Oklahoma started a pitcher who was consistently 89-90 and kept the Tennesse bats under control. Tennessee was led offensively by Ethan Gross(2-3), Ricky Coleman(3-4), and Cade Stallings (1-3). Gross had 3 RBI and scored the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh. Coleman had an RBI and hit the ball hard in all 3 hits. Stallings had a double with and RBI. Zac Phillips (Chattanooga Arts/Sciences) also had a hit and displayed his speed in the seventh when he beat out a potential double play that kept the inning alive allowing Gross to score the winning run. Sophomore Robert Hansen(Beech) pitched well and impressed scouts with a 87-88 cut fastball mixed with a nasty slider. Freshman Daniel Norris came on in relief and got Tennessee out of the 5th allowing USJ sophomore Preston Overbey to come in and shut the door for the last 2 innings. Overbey displayed pinpoint control and showed he can pitch under pressure. Tennessee sits 3-1 after Day 2 of the Tournament. |

WP- Save- LP- Daniel Palo(Houston) 3-IP 1-ER 3-H 4-K 3-BB Hunter Atkins(Red Bank) 4-IP 2-ER 4-H 2-K 2-BB (Loss) HR- Ricky Coleman Tennessee had a tough day against Durant,OK (replacement for California) on Day 3 of the Sunbelt. Two errors led to 3 unearned runs. Offensively Tennessee was led by Ricky Coleman (USN) who was 3-4 and a triple shy of the cycle. There were no other multiple hit players for Tennessee. Daniel Palo was the starting pitcher and pitched decently with a fastball that topped at 87. Hunter Atkins came on in relief and pitched well enough to keep the game close. Tennessee is still in the hunt for the championship but must win the remaining games to assure a spot. |

WP-Alan Waldon(Red Bank) 7-IP 0-ER
3-H 6-K 3-BB (Win) Save- LP- HR- Cade Stallings 3 (6) Jordan Cooper (1) Team Tennessee's offense exploded for 17 hits including 4 HR's, 5 doubles, and a triple. The show of the day was Cade Stallings (Farragut) who was 4-5 with 3 HR's and 6 RBI's. Charles Dibella (Houston) was 2-4 with a double. John Jordan (Collierville) was 3-5 with a double. Ricky Coleman was 2-5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI's. Zach Phillips was 2-5 with a triple. Jordan Cooper (Shelbyville) was 2-4 with a HR 2 RBI. Chase Brookshire (McCallie) was 3-4 with a double. Pitching wise, Red Bank's Alan Waldon was completely dominant off the mound throwing a complete game allowing only 3 hits. Tennessee actually sits 4-1 going into the game against Oklahoma Gold as their game against the California replacement actually did not count in the standings. Tennessee's pitching continues to impress scouts, and with the bats coming alive, hopefully good things are in store for this team the remainder of the tournament. |

WP- Save- LP - Phillip Pfeifer(Farragut) 7-IP 6-ER 8-H 4-K 2-BB HR - Top Hitters (Name, H-AB, etc) Team Tennessee faced Team Arizona in what would be the championship game of the tournament. Arizona did what they had to do to get the job done. Tennessee faced 2 pitchers who were consistently 91-92 and could get anything going. Farragut freshman Phillip Pfeifer pitched well only giving up 8 hits against a powerful lineup but 2 homeruns proved to be the deciding factor. The only run scored by Tennessee was as homerun by Charles Dibella in the 4th inning. Tennessee was represented well in Oklahoma as they came away with the runner-up trophy in arguably the top junior showcase tournament in the country. Many players got great exposure from their experience in the Sunbelt. A few of the teams represented by the scouts in attendance were Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Memphis, Notre Dame, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, UAB, Southern Miss, Baylor and many more from across the country. Team Tennessee players continue to receive high praise from both scouts and other teams participating in the tournament. The future looks bright for Team Tennessee in the Sunbelt as many possible returnees received much attention. It is well worth pointing out that this tournament is not simply a showcase tournament but one in which each team involved tries to come away with the trophy. That is what makes the tournament so attrctive to major Division 1 teams who wish to see players perform against the best talent in the nation in a competitive situation. The state of Tennessee should be very proud of the way the 2008 version of Team Tennessee represented themselves on and off the field. |
