Chattanooga vs Motlow

The Motlow Bucks (27-15, 11-8) won Friday's nine inning single game 8-4 before dropping both games of Saturday's doubleheader against Chattanooga St. this past weekend in Chattanooga. The Tigers edged the Bucks 6-4 in game one Saturday before rolling to a 10-0 win in game two.

Motlow and Chattanooga are among a group of teams fighting for second place in the TCCAA behind nationally-ranked Walters St. The Bucks step outside the conference to host John C. Calhoun on Tuesday, Apr. 20 at 2pm before finishing the regular season with a three-game series at Walters St. this coming weekend.

The Bucks and Tigers battled back and forth on Friday, with Motlow matching Chattanooga's two early runs with two runs of its own in the top of the fifth. Each team scored single runs in both the sixth and seventh innings before the Bucks scored three in the eighth and another in the ninth to get its only win of the weekend.

"This was a good win for us," said Bucks head coach Dan McShea. "We had some big two-out hits to score some runs and Andy and Aaron did a fine job on the mound against a talented Chattanooga team."

Andy Southard (3-1) and Aaron Pearson combined on the mound for the victory. Southard pitched seven innings and got the win, allowing six hits and only three earned runs. Pearson notched his sixth save by allowing only one hit in the final two innings.

Justin Brewer, Michael Watkins, and Seth Brothers each homered, with Brothers and Brewer each driving in two runs. Watkins, Brewer, Blake Allen, and Kirkland Wheeler each had two hits.

Saturday's opener saw Chattanooga jump out to a 3-0 lead after one inning, but the Bucks battled back with four runs in the top of the third. The Tigers fought back themselves though with one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Colton Robertson got the start on the mound for Motlow, pitching 4.2 innings before being pulled in the fifth. Tyler Harris (7-3) was tabbed with the loss, pitching the final 1.2 innings. Zac Mitchell was 2-4 with two RBIs while Watkins and Cody Midgett each drove in runs.

Game two was all about the third inning when Chattanooga scored 10 runs on nine hits. The rest of the game the Tigers were held to only one hit, but the explosion on the third was all the home team needed to win the series.

Pearson (3-2) was tagged with the loss, allowing eight earned runs in 2.1 innings. Austin Patton allowed two earned runs in the final 1.2 innings. Brothers and Brewer had Motlow's only two hits.
