Coaches comments: Coaches comments:

Mike Crossland - "Coach Dennis has done a great job with the Chattanooga State program over the last two years. They are playing really well right now & coming off a big conference series win in Memphis. Looking at their offensive numbers, they are going to come out and put pressure on you defensively. Coach Dennis will have his team ready to go. We must try to find some consistency defensively.  We
are going to have to play as close to perfect as we can to have a chance to win this series on the road. If we can play defense and continue to have quality at bats I like our chances. This should be one of the better series of the year because so much is on the line. I hope that we can come out and compete."
Greg Dennis - " Volunteer State comes in here as one of the top programs in the conference over the past number of years. They have experienced
much success and bring a rich tradition with them. They have always been good on the mound and exceptional at the plate. I am sure Coach
Crossland has them geared up and primed to play their best ball here at the end of the season. They are going to be a handful to handle here in the Scenic City. e must try and continue to do the things that help us be successful... throwing quality pitches, making the
throwing quality pitches, making the routine plays and
moving base runners. It is so important for us,in this critical series, to come out and support our pitchers with
good defense and quality at bats."

Now we have to prepare for a very tough Cleveland State team this weekend", said Coach Crossland

Highlights - Hiwassee made 8 errors in the game.

Series Highlights - Jackson State played like the 2nd place team in the league this weekend.  They out-executed Hiwassee in every aspect of the game, got hits when they needed to, and got solid pitching. A key point for Jackson this weekend was the fact that they did not give away runs like Hiwassee did. They did what they needed to do to stay in all three ball games and
came away winning the series with 2 wins.

Highlights -
Jackson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the 3rd, but Rob Sherwood held them silent the rest of the game. Sherwood had to overcome a lot of adversity pitching through what seemed like defensive miscues in every inning by the Tigers, whose fielding percentage is the worst in the
league. Jackson had many opportunities, leaving 7 runners on base, but had a tough time with Sherwood. Marbry through the ball well for Jackson, as Hiwassee's bats just happen to find holes through the infield and made some things happen.

Highlights -
An good pitching performance by both teams. Ruggles threw well for Hiwassee giving up only 7 hits and 3 earned runs, but made one costly mistake to Jackson's Carlo in the 5th which was a two-run homer that put the game to far out of reach for the Tigers. On the flip-side,
Hiwassee's offense could not get anything started against Tunnello for Jackson who did a great job of throwing strikes and keeping the hitters off-balance.

Series Highlights -
Overall this was a great series. Besides the first game on Saturday the series was a hard fought battle all the way to the last out of the game. The first game Saturday Southwest's bats were unstoppable and it was everything we could do not to get run-ruled. The second game Saturday was lead by Kevin Hammons picking up his seventh win of the year and 6th complete game. The last game of the series on Sunday was a pitcher's duel between Langston and Cowan. Both teams scored in the 1st and neither could do anything until later in the game. Southwest played extremely well and is going to be a tough team to beat in the tournament.
