Jerry Edwards - "Vol
is playing very well right now. Coming off of a series sweep they will
be playing with a lot of confidence. They have some good young talent, with
a good mix of sophomores. Coach Smith will have his guys ready to play. They
always play us tough and this weekend will be no different.
We have to do a better job at the plate. We need to get guys on base early so we can try to run and play our style of game. We need to be able to execute better and get some timely two out hits. We will need to get three quality starts and be able to keep Watkins off the bases, so their middle guys are hitting with no one on base. We also need a better defensive perfor-mance this weekend. Last weekend we gave up five unearned runs out of a total of thirteen runs scored. Vol will be a tough opponent and we will have to play nearly perfect to have a chance to get at least one win. " |
Jeff Smith - "Going
to Hiwassee will be a chal-lenge for us. Coach Edwards will have his team
pumped up and ready to play. This should be a very good series. We must
continue to improve offensively and defensively. If we are able to play
error free baseball and effectively pitch, then we should have chance in all
three games. With a road record of 2-5 and a 3-3 conference record this is a
must series for us to get back where we want to be in the standings and from a confidence stand point. " |

Series Highlights -Outstanding spectator series to watch this weekend.
Both teams played extremely well and battled toe to toe. Timely
defense and hitting on Friday pulled the Eagles through in Game 1 and the
same can be said for Walters State on Saturday for Games 2 and 3. Would
like to add that Walters State this weekend played the entire series
without their head coach Ken Campbell who had to be hospitalized early
Friday morning with a kidney stone. We wish Coach Campbell a speedy
recovery.
