Coaches comments: Coaches comments:

Jerry Edwards - "Vol is playing very well right now. Coming off of a series sweep they will be playing with a lot of confidence. They have some good young talent, with a good mix of sophomores. Coach Smith will have his guys ready to play. They always play us tough and this weekend will be no different. We have to do a better job at the plate. We need to
get guys on base early so we can try to run and play our style of game. We need to be able to execute better and get some timely two out hits. We will need to get three quality starts and be able to keep Watkins off the bases, so their middle guys are hitting with no one on base. We also need a better defensive perfor-mance this weekend. Last weekend we gave up five unearned runs out of a total of thirteen runs scored. Vol will be a tough opponent and we will have to play nearly perfect to have a chance to get at least one win.
"
Jeff Smith - "Going to Hiwassee will be a chal-lenge for us. Coach Edwards will have his team pumped up and ready to play. This should be a very good series. We must continue to improve offensively and defensively. If we are able to play error free baseball and effectively pitch, then we should have chance in all three games. With a road record of 2-5 and a 3-3 conference record this is a must series for us to get back
where we want to be in the standings and from a confidence stand point.

Highlights:

Key Play or Inning -
Game 1
The Tigers lacked a quality start today as the Pioneers got a strong performance on the mound by Scotty Rogowski. The Pioneers helped Rogow- ski out at the plate by pumping out 13 hits & jumped out to an 8-2 lead. The Tigers' strugg-ling offense once again could not find a way to put themselves back in the ballgame.
PLAYER OF THE GAME - JUSTIN HUMPHREY, VSCC
Game 2
Good starting pitching performances from both teams made for a good game in the latter part of the doubleheader. Vol. St's Dustin Johnson settled down after giving up a run in the 1st and held the Tiger's scoreless for the rest of the game.  Josh Sing pitched a great game for
Hiwassee, going into the 8th inning. Both pitchers competed and made big pitches when they needed them. Crabtree came in the bottom of the 8th with 1 out. The Tiger's had runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out, down 2-1. Crabtree got a double play to end the game.          PLAYER OF THE GAME - DUSTIN CRABTREE, VSCC

Highlights:

Key Play or Inning -Hiwassee jumped out early to a 4-2 lead in the 2nd inning. Vol. State
scored a run in the 5th and and went ahead of the Tigers 5-4 in the top of the 9th off of an unearned run and a sacrifice fly by Garrett Harp. In the bottom half of the 9th, Hiwassee tied the game up off of a big two out hit by Chris Biggs. Both teams were held scoreless in the 10th and in the 11th Harp came through again for the Pioneers by providing what would be the game-winning hit.  Josh Holman threw the ball well today for Hiwassee giving up 3 runs and only one of them earned. Holman competed and made big pitches when he needed them.  Dustin Crabtree shut the Tigers down late in the game to pick up the win.  Volunteer State
got hits when they needed them and made big pitches and once again Hiwassee found another way to lose.

Series Highlights -Outstanding spectator series to watch this weekend.
Both teams played extremely well and battled toe to toe. Timely
defense and hitting on Friday pulled the Eagles through in Game 1 and the
same can be said for Walters State on Saturday for Games 2 and 3. Would
like to add that Walters State this weekend played the entire series
without their head coach Ken Campbell who had to be hospitalized early
Friday morning with a kidney stone. We wish Coach Campbell a speedy
recovery.
