Coaches comments: Coaches comments:

Steve Cornelison - " I expect Chattanooga will play very hard and make us work for what we
get. They seem to be solid defensively, they have some key offensive guys back from last year, as well as on the mound. They will be well coached, combine that with how tough it is to play on the road- we will have to play extremely well to have a chance to win the series.
For us to be successful, we have to do a better job on hitting with runners in scor-ing position. Also, like I've said every
weekend, we've got to tighten up defensively. We can't make 2 or 3 errors a game and expect to win in this league. I think this will be a hard fought series.
"
Greg Dennis - " It comes as no surprise that Jackson State comes in here as one of the top teams in the conference. Steve has a great core of sophomores returning from last year's fine squad and brought in a fine recruiting class.  They pitch extremely well and hit with the top teams in the nation. They were picked as a conference favorite and have done nothing to disparage that at all.  His team is balanced in all areas and very deadly. We must go out and play solid defense and pitch very well against them. It is going to be a "must" to take advantage of scoring opportunities and limit their chances to blow open innings."

Tony Marbry pitched a very effective game for Jackson State.

Highlights -The Generals jumped out to a 6-0 lead by pounding the Tiger pitching in the first inning. After that the Tigers settled down and held them relatively at bay for the rest of the game. Logan Tunnello and Kurk Scantlin did a solid job of holding the Tigers without a big inning and even though they allowed 3 runs, they limited the damage and
held on to win the game.

Series Highlights - No doubt that Jackson State came in and did exactly what we had hoped not to allow them.....get the BIG inning. They
played very solidly in the field and pitched very well. Their hitting is solid and they strung together some very solid at bats and innings. Chatt State wasn't up to the task and needs to re-group and put together a more solid effort against quality opponents.

Highlights -
The game was back and forth the entire day. Hiwassee jumped out to a 4-3 lead after 3 innings. Cleveland State rebounded with a 3 run 6th inning. Hiwassee then clawed back scoring runs in the eighth and ninth inning to tie the game. Both teams had multiple opportunities to score
the winning run in extra innings. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 12th Cory Davis tripled down the right field line. Michael Courtney then hit a ground ball to the third baseman Haynes and he was unable to come up with the play.

Series Highlights -All three games could have gone either way this weekend. We were fortunate enough to make plays and get the hits that put us over the top. Hiwassee is a much better team than their record shows. They battled us every inning of every game.  We have got to play
a lot better going into what could be the biggest weekend of the season. If we play like we did this weekend against Jackson we won't be as successful. Overall wins are wins and we will take them how we can get them.

Motlow at Walters
Friday - Game 2 and 3      The Walters State Senators used extra an inning on Friday to take game one of a doubleheader 7-6. Philip Utley shut the door on the Bucks of Motlow State in the second game 9-2.  Walters State goes to 22-9 (10-8) while Motlow State falls to 19-12 (7-8). Doodle Hicks (5-1) worked hard for six innings, fanning eight batters in six innings of work but ran out of gas in the seventh and left the game one run down. With two outs in the seventh, Tyler Westmoreland's game tying RBI single sent the game into extra innings.  In the top eighth, relief pitcher Zane Stone (1-1) held off the Bucks for a scoreless half inning.  In the bottom of the eighth pinch runner Kyle Brewer scored on a Chad Maddox game ending single to give the Senators the win. Stone picks up his first collegiate win. For Motlow, Mike Moeller takes the loss. Glenn Rogers and Bobby Bratton had a double each. Courtney English had a solo home run in the fourth.
In game two, Philip Utley kept the Bucks scoreless for six innings. Blake Butler and Jason Gray had a double each in a five-run rally in the fifth. The Bucks had the beginnings of a late rally in the seventh when home plate umpire Lee Copeland was injured by a wild pitch and was helped off the field. Base umpire Jeremy Parker donned his protective gear and finished the game behind the plate. The game ended with a base running mistake by Carlos Rosario who was caught off base. Utley got the win and goes to 5-1. Motlow State's Toby Woodlee takes the loss and falls to 2-2. The Senators will be on the road Friday, April 1-2 for a conference series with Roane State in Harriman. They will then enjoy a seven-game

Series Highlights - The bottom line is Roane state came in wanting to win 3 baseball games. Vol state continued to kick the ball around and pitched well enough to win baseball games. How else can you explain a 3.14 team era and a below .500 record in the conference. This weekend
could have been the worst conference series that Vol State has ever had defensively. Roane State is a very good team and played extremely well. It would have been nice to have seen a series were one team didn't make 12 errors in 3 games it would have than been a good series to watch.
