Team Previews

Davy Crockett   1aaa   20-18      3/8

The 2010 version of the Pioneers look to improve on a 20-18 campaign and a sectional appearance from a year ago. The feeling of coming up one game short of the final eight in the state tournament still weighs heavily on our returning players minds. We lost two full time starters from last years team. Top returnees are seniors Clinton Freeman (ETSU signee), Jacob Berry(3 year starter at 2b) and Drue Deloach(C). Other starters coming back are Ty Shipley (LF/P), Sam Tarlton (SS), and Chris Marti (P/3B). Freeman and Marti will anchor the pitching staff. Shipley, Jacob Adkins (Jr, LH)and Joe Ganger (So, RH) will see a lot of innings as well. The ultimate keys to our success will be consistency and depth on the mound! This will be a fun team to watch if they play with a sense of urgency night in and night out!

Morristown East 2aaa   16-15      3/8

The 2010 season for the Hurricanes will be one of challenges. The newly realigned IMAC conference has instantly improved the qual-ity of play with the addition of Seymour, Sevier County, and South Doyle. On top of the new conference schedule, a tough non-conference schedule will present many chal-lenges including tournament appearances at the Lakeway Hardball Classic, the Coke-Cola Classic, and the Warrior Classic. The Hurri-canes are returning 3 everyday starters from the 2009 campaign. These three starters include Sr's Jordan Black and Jake Ellison, along with sophomore Cody Ricker. The Hurri-canes will be represented by fellow seniors Clint Biggs, Michael Corner, Austin Miller, Cory Sigler, Seth Wolfenbarger, and Jon Woods. The rest of the roster is rounded out by juniors Zack Jones, Caylor Romines, Tyler Sutton, and Caleb Wise. In addition, sopho-mores Brandon Helton, Travis Norton, and Thomas Siler may see some playing time.  Developing into a baseball team who play!
s consistently game in and game out will be essential to a successful season.

Dobyns-Bennett  1aaa   22-10      2/25

After a 22-10 2009 season, the Indians will have to replace 5 pitchers, plus our short-stop, third basemen and our first baseman. On the plus side we return thirteen varsity
players including our leading hitter (Nick Loughry), our entire outfield (Sean Seabolt, Jake Bellamy, Garrett Clark and Glenn Evans). We also return our starting catcher (Nathan Millsap), plus pitcher Kyle Brandon. If our pitching staff can handle varsity competition, we have plenty of pitching talent to be successful. Offensively we should do well. Our returning hitters have
a combined .350 B.A. Our seniors have dis-played a great work ethic which translates into a great work ethic for the entire group. We are excited and feel great about our teams' prospects.

Team Previews

Knox Central  3aaa   21-7      3/8

Central will look to replace 8 graduated starters from a 2009 team that won 21 games.  Only 1 full time starter, Michael Reece (Jr SS) returns. Two others, Tyler Wharton (Sr. Of) and Phillip Saah (Jr 3b) with meaningful game experience return as well. The Bobcats are more inexperienced on the mound. Only 1 win returns from last years team. Garrett Beard (Soph) and George Testerman (Sr) are the only returning pitchers to ever throw a pitch at the varsity level, throwing a com-bined 8 innings in 2009. In order to see success this season Central will have to mature each day in practice in an attempt to be better at the end of the season than they are in March. Even with all of the inex-perience and competing in a tough district, the Bobcats are excited to see what this season brings with so many new faces on the field.

Lenoir City  4aaa   14-23       3/8

There is much excitement and anticipation around this years Lenoir City Baseball team.  The 2010 Lenoir City Basebll Team returns 8 starters from last years team and 13 letter-man. Most of this group has been starting for at least 2 years. This group includes catcher Corey Norman, shortstop Cody Wright, outfielder Tyler Sams, outfielder Drey Tipton, Wesley Campbell, Daniel Cook and Reiss Stanley. 2B-SS Sean Fain returns from injury this year. Sophomore Cameron Smith will bring speed to the top of the lineup.  These players should provide a strong base to build around. On the mound, the Panthers return all innings from last season. Most of the pitching staff has 2 years of varsity experience. The veteran pitching staff will be anchored by RHP Tyler Sams, LHP Reiss Stanley and RHP Cole Rogers. District 4-AAA is a tough district from top to bottom and especially tough when playing many freshman and sophomores.  The Panthers have lacked experience and depth the last couple of years, but the Panthers have high expecta-tions this year. The experience that returns and depth that has developed should be a big positive and make this season very exciting.

Anderson County  3aaa   24-9     2/25

Anderson County High School enters their first year in Class AAA with a lot of questions. They lost 2 Division 1 signees off last years team, but will look to Seniors Carter Pack (1B/3B, Signed at LMU) and Taylor Foster (C/3B, Signed at Vol State) to carry the load for a overall in-experienced team. Both guys return for their final year after hitting over .400 and 6 HR's in the middle of the lineup the previous two years. Jr LHP Tanner Williams and Nate Thomas, along with SO LHP Taylor Durand will lead this years Maverick pitching staff. All three lefties have good velocity and off speed pitches. Coach Downs says that in order for this years team to be successful, they have to gain experience fast, and rely on some big hitters in the middle of the lineup.

Halls    3aaa  19-13        2/25

The 2010 Red Devils look to improve on their 19-13 record on a year ago. Our dist-rict will once again be very competitive and each of us must improve from last year to contend and have a shot to advance to the regionals. How much improvement we make will depend on several factors: 1)Seniors leading by example and being productive 2)how improved will the pitching staff be from a year ago 3)How much intensity they bring to the park each day, playing sound defense and being productive at the plate.
Returning seniors include SS Paul McConkey (Kentucky signee) P-1B Jared Burton, P-3B Josh Hillard (Roane State Signee), P-OF Garrett Gresham (probably the best athlete on the team), OF Blake Childress and P Michael Weaver. All but Weaver (injury) saw extensive action in 2009. Other returnees with varsity experience include Jrs. P-IF Bryce Beeler and P-OF Andrew Barkley, Sophomores P-1B Thomas Corcione,C-IF Austin Smith and P-OF Grant Painter. Look for Jrs. C Drew Russell and OF Jordan Blair to add depth and contribute. The rest will have to come from 2009 jv roster.

Farragut  4aaa  39-5        1/12

The 2010 Admirals will have big shoes to fill with the departure of four starters, two of the top four pitchers and a terrific coach. This team will be lead by a strong character senior class. At the forefront of this group will be Ethan Bennett(C) and Nick Williams (RHP/1B). The underclassmen contributors will be lead by two very talented juniors, Phillip Pfeifer (LHP) and Nicky Delmonico (SS). “In order for us to continue the type of success Farragut Baseball has had; 1. We must figure out a couple of positions (DH, 2B, 3B, 1 OF spot).  2. We must find those pitchers after our top 2 guys which give us the best chance to be successful. 3. We must continue the tradition of hard work and a team first attitude in which Farragut Baseball has been all about."

Bearden 4aaa     30-15        1/14

Bearden High School lost 7 seniors off of the 2009 team, all of whom signed to play college baseball at some level. Our 2010 team will be young. Captains will be Chase Keen, Ty Greene, Garrett Sale, and Travis Scates. Going into Pre-Season practice, all 9 positions are open for competition. First-year head coach Jack Tate will be assisted by Mitch Carter, Brian Lovett, and Buddy Wilker. Pitchers returning with Varsity experience include Chris Hamilton, Dakota Stallings, Anson Quillen, Cory Phillips, Chase Keen, Marshall Wilkins, and Daniel Hullett. Several other sophomore and junior pitchers will play key roles on the 2010 squad. Position players returning with Varsity experience include Dakota Stallings (SS), Drew Pasillas (C), Garrett Sale (2B),
Chase Keen (OF), Travis Scates (C), Joe Bruce (1B), and Ty Greene (OF). Several young players are also competing for starting spots in the 2010 Bulldog lineup.

Karns   3aaa       17-17       1/25

After a mediocre 17-17 2009 season, the 2010 Beavers will need to find some pitching success in order to compete in the consis-tently competitive 3AAA conference. Very few pitchers return who saw significant time on the mound last season. In fact, only two returning pitchers had a winning record.  Needless to say, the Beavers better find some guys who can throw strikes and compete on the bump. Expect Josh Randles, Hunter Hill, Zach Cooper, Kyle Boden, Tyler Justice, and Matt Hatcher to really fight for innings this spring. While Karns returns more than ten players with varsity exper-ience, they return only four every-day starters, which means some guys must step in and contribute immediately.  The roster will consist of at least eight seniors; these players and their individual attitudes will go far to predict the season's outcome for the boys in blue and white. OF Austin Oakes, 1B Mason Dillon, and SS/3B Tyler Roach will be crucial to the team's offensive pro-duction. Once again the Beavers face a tough schedule that includes series with the teams in 3AAA, as well as games with Knox West, William Blount, Webb, Catholic, Pigeon Forge, Science Hill, and Bearden. KHS will host the Kessler's classic (formerly known as the Sportsbelle) & the Nike Invitational (with Oak Ridge, Clinton, And. Co., and others). If this team can grow and a unit and find a way to embrace a team identity, then the district 3AAA tournament could see this team as one of the potential favorites.
"3AAA should be more competitive this season than ever before.  With the addition of Anderson County, we now have at least five teams who will go into this season with a legitimate shot to win the district championship. If we are going to be one of those teams, our guys must buy into a team concept, and they must be willing to play for something larger than themselves. We will live and die with our pitching, and it will be interesting to watch as our young guys battle for those precious opportunities.

Knoxville West  4aaa  na       1/25

The 2010 Rebels are returning 8 starters from last season.  Varsity experience is the biggest strength of this team. Several players have started for more than 2 years. Seniors Will Chesney, Billy Sivyer, Blake Sowell, Tyler Waddell, Nikk Craig, and John Cantrell all started last season. Juniors Max Valenti and David Travis also started every varsity game last year as sophomores. West will be looking for support and quality innings from underclassmen Tyler Marine, David Michalic, Drew Staten ,and Johnny Rhodes.  Pitching will be another strength for this team.  John Cantrell and Billy Sivyer should give the Rebels a more than good chance at competing in a much tougher district. Coach Jeff Wright has said that he feels as though he has 12 to 13 players that could step onto the field and play at a high level. His biggest concern is for the 12 to 13 players working together as a team and being able to handle the competition for playing time. Workouts have been very prod!
uctive and focused. Leaders have emerged to lead the Rebels into what they hope will be a successful 2010.
