The Tiger coaching staff has been extremely pleased with the work ethic of the pitching staff this off-season. This will be the deepest staff that Hardin County has had in several years.  There are five guys that could become district starters.

The 2008 Houston Mustang baseball team has a good core of returnee's from last seasons state tournament team. Eight players return that were major contributors to last
season 's success.  Those players are Lead off hitter Jr.  Cody Hudson hit .437.  Sr. catcher Logan Chafin hit .345 and was solid behind the plate.  Sr. Michael Collie dual guy hit .343 while going 4-2 on the bump.  Jr.  Ryan Bellows hit .333 Jr. Charles DiBella .311 Sr.  Kevin Furman .307 Soph.  Nick Powell .300 and the mainstay at 1B Thomas Salley.

The Mustangs only return 3 pitchers that logged 30 plus innings.
Michael Collie 2.24 era., Eric Emerling 2.98 era, and  Daniel Palo 7-3 return to lead an inexperienced pitching staff..

"To be successful this year we must have solid starting pitching who can go out on a daily basis and pitch deep into games.  We have a tremendous amount of team speed and we must put tons of pressure on the apposing pitcher when we get on.  We must be able to build off the successful 2007 season.  We lost some outstanding Senior leaders
and now we have to have some players step into those rolls," said Coach McCarter.

Returning defensive starters for the 2008 Red Devils are:  Beau Martin, Sr-3b (.303; 25 rbi),  Kyle Smith, Sr-RF (.343; 36 rbi; 27 runs; 12 2b's; 4 HR), Jason Thompson, Jr-SS (.427; 37 rbi; 33 runs; 9 3b's; 6 2b's), Mike Faulkner, Jr-CF (.384; 50 runs; 6 2b's; 21 sb's).

The 2008 Red Devils will be led on the mound by returners Beau Martin, Sr ( 4-2; 5.29 ERA) & Hayes Britt, Jr (2-0; 1.62 ERA). 

"To be successful this year we will need to stay away from injuries, will need to develop pitching and position depth, will need to work as a team (together as one), and will need to be able to take advantage of overall speed on offense, said Coach Nesbitt.

Bartlett has 7 of 8 everyday starters returning from last year. 2/hr., platooned Nick Elliot sr. inf .318 1/hr and Dustin Rovery sr. inf. .268 1/hr. Sean Mellinger jr. of/p will probably fill our dh spot, Marcus Burk jr. inf. will compete for a spot in the line-up as well.  The Panthers  lost 4 of our 6 pitchers that pitched in the state tournament last year. Jon Michael Davis 8-0  1.66 era. 41/k in 50 2/3 innings, Heath Hatfield 10-1  2.84 era. 79/k in 64 innings are the two mainstay pitchers that are returning. Bryce Francis sr. rhp, Danny Wright jr. rh, Kyle Overby Jr. rh., Sean Mellinger Jr. lh., Brian Weber Jr. rh.,Tyler Porter so. rh., Taylor Morton  so. rh.,Luke Deaton so. lh., will have to eat up a lot of innings and step up for Bartlett to compete at a high level.

"To be successful this year we have to develop the depth of our pitching staff. The other important area is complacency, will we set back and be happy with last year's success or will we push every-day to keep getting better and also, to be playing our best baseball when the tournaments begin," said Coach Clark.

Arlington has all starters returning for their first year to have a senior class. Brett Turner sr. p/of .364, JJ Devine sr. p/1B/dh .316, Jay Gore sr. of .242, Neal Harper sr. p/1B/dh, seniors Brice Cook and Tyler Poole will battle for a spot in the outfield. Blake Rosenburg jr. 3B .352, Alex Bowman jr. .285, Justin Barnes jr. 2B .250, Tyler Cox jr. C .280.

Pitching this year will rely upon seniors: Brett Turner 2.81, Neal Harper 4.95, Taylor Whipple 1.59 and JJ Devine. Our only junior starting pitcher is Jonathan VanEaton 4.64.

"To be successful this year we will have to stay injury free and rely on our seniors to produce at the end of the year during tournament time," added Coach Ring.
