Gallatin   26-14                                 12/4/07          001

www.eteamz.com/gallatinbaseball  The Green Wave return several players who gained key experience in 2007. Antonio Butler is a D1 talent being recruited by Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and UAB among others. Ross Hollins and Ryan Critchelow are Juniors who made the TBCA Sophomore team. Hollins has great athleticism, and Critchelow is a talented two-way player for the Wave. Todd has good power potential at the plate, and fellow Senior Josh Green will return as a starter in the Gallatin outfield. Blumenthal has great overall ability, and is already a force defensively. Sophomore Tyler Scott has the potential to be an outstanding prospect, and his bat should settle into the middle of the lineup. Getting Lewis into the lineup after basketball season will be a big boost. Senior Jordan Gooch looks to take 2b as 3 year starter Zak Hargett moved on to the college ranks. Other position players who could figure in the mix are Junior infielders Josh Prior and Cody Larriviere. Mike Davis is a JR 3B who will provide some depth. Sophomores Kaleb Hammock and Joey Williams are solid players
who could find their way into the lineup as well, and Seniors Scotty
Griffin and Chambers will battle for some at-bats. Look for Freshman
Mike Burton to push for time in the middle, as he is a very talented young player.

 Ross Hollins-CF, JR. .360, 3HR, 22 sb
 Antonio Butler-SS, Sr. .345, 2HR
 Dustin Todd - 3B/DH, SR. .320, 2HR
 Ryan Critchelow - OF, JR.
 Tyler Scott-OF, Soph.
 Josh Green-OF, SR. .310, 7sb
 Blake Blumnethal, C, JR.
 Mike Lewis, 3B, SR. .400, 6 sb

Gallatin will return some key hurlers from 2007, but must find a
consistent #1 and #2. Senior Blake Chambers has a big arm, and could be the answer along with Senior Dustin Todd. Both will pitch at the next level. Juniors Nathan Haynes and Ryan Critchelow are very talented, and could fill those slots as well. Haynes won 5 games and threw a pair of no-hitter last season. The sophomore class features a pair of arms who have a lot potential in Tyler Scott and 6'5" Chandler
McCauley. Butler pumps good velocity and will close out some games.
Sophomore LH Kaleb Hammock logged Varsity innings last season,
and is another of 4 lefties in the Sophomore class who could become an excellent class of hurlers for the Green Wave.

To be successful this year we..".must find consistency in the pitching staff. We return some key guys, but we need to find a couple of guys to take control of the staff. We return a lot of "athletes", and speed will again be a strength. I like the offensive potential, and we have a ton of speed and arms on defense. If Butler plays at his expected level at SS, we could be as good as anyone up the middle.  I think this team needs to get tougher, and we will take care of that this Winter. I also think we need to go about our business with more emotion and a sense of urgency. Athleticism goes only so far... I expect this team to take the next step and improve even more from last season. That will be a tough task in our District.", said Coach Hunt.

Mt. Juliet   34-12                       12/5/07         004

sport-baseball.asp We have most of our everyday starters returning from last year.  We should be very exciting offensively and defensively. We should have plenty of power
throughout the line-up. We also have excellent team speed.  Here is our
predicted line-up.
C-Caleb Knox(Sr) (.290/3 HR/22 RBI)
1B-Josh Cotham(Sr) (.364/10 HR/37 RBI)
All District/All region/signed with Lipscomb University
2B-Lance Harrington(Sr) (.250/10 RBI)/Richie Hawkins(Jr)
SS-Ethan Gross(So) (.230/11 RBI)/Taylor Haydel(Jr)
3B-Jake Harper(So)/Logan Gray(So)
LF-Chase Dalton(Sr)/Stephen Smith(Sr)
CF-Tyler Carr(Sr) (.310/4 HR/37 RBI)
All District 9AAA
RF-Ryan Overstreet(Sr) (.300/5 /27 )/Jeff Murphy (Sr) (.300/1/30)
DH-Jeff Murphy/Matt Owens(Jr)
We must replace 24 wins from last year's pitching staff.  We have a lot
of depth and good pitchers ready to step up.  We will not have the
dominant guy we have had in the past. Here is our predicted rotation:
Josh Cotham(Sr) (4-4/1.58 ERA/56 K's)
Logan Gray(So) (2-1/1.75 ERA/1 save)
Travis Boyd(Sr) (1-0/3.41 ERA)
Chase Dalton(Sr) (1 save)
Jake Rodefer(Sr) (1-0/2.1 ERA)
Stephen Smith(Sr)
Taylor Haydel(Jr)
Jake Harper(So)

"We will need to develop our pitching staff. We have the depth and talent to have an excellent staff but they are unproven. Our offense and defense should be as good as any we have had at MJ. Expectations will remain very high for 2008." added Coach Purvis.

We were young in 2007 and we will be young again in 2008 with only two seniors. We should be solid offensively and defensively. We do have to replace a catcher and a third baseman from last year. Our pitchers will have to throw strikes and keep us in games to give our offense a chance to win them late. All our pitching is unproven especially against the competition we will face in district 9AAA. We have a chance to be a solid squad but it will depend on the kids work habits and building confidence.

Wilson Central   9-30                 1/10/08     30

Wildcats will return 7 starters form last year's squad. The Wildcats hope the experience gained from last year's dissapointing year will help them compete in a very tough District 9AAA.  We will be led by Seniors Matt Wood, Jessie Snodgrass, Nolan Gray, and Tyler Pumphrey.  2008 projected line-up is as follows:
C - Tyler Pumphrey (SR)
1st  - Nolan Gray (SR)
2nd - Andrew Green (Soph)/Ross Hudson (JR)
SS - Cody Liddle (JR)
3rd - Heath Daughtery (JR)
LF - Matt Wood (SR)
CF - Ross Strong (JR)
RF - Brad Collins (JR)/ CJ Zamora (JR)
DH - Joseph Tibbs (JR)

Others who will help: J.J Fish (JR) (recovering from arm surgery), Tyler Parkerson (JR), Andy Yates (JR), and Dylan Herchenbach (JR)

We must add some depth to our pitching staff. We will need some young guys to step up and provide us with some quality starts and innings. SR RHP's Jessie Snodgrass and Nolan Gray will anchor this staff. Look for JR RHP Heath Daughtery and Soph Allen Ecton to compete for the 3 and 4 spot.  JR RHP J.J Fish could be a big lift but a fall arm surgery may hold him out until April. JR RHP Tyler Parkerson and JR. LHP Dylan Herchenbach will be used as relievers and spot starters.

"The development of the pitching staff will be a big part of this teams success.  We only have 2 starters with experience.  The staff will have to mature quickly.  This team doesn't have any superstars.  If we play together we can be very competitive," said Coach Ford.

Beech       27-7                   2/12/08               74

The 2008 Bucs will be in somewhat of a rebuilding mode after grad-uating 21 players over the past two years. A lot of inexperienced players will have to step in and play.  The only returnee is Matthew Franklin, who hit .380, with 16 rbi's, and a .375 ave. with runners in
scoring position. Taylor Stewart and John Wagnon will be counted on as well.

The top returning arms are seniors Mason Forbis, rhp with good
potential, and Wes Robinson. These two guys will have to carry a big load for the Bucs to be successful. Junior right-hander Clint Meadows has seen a lot of action in relief the past two two seasons, but will now have to be counted on as a starter. Junior lefthander Cody Wilson will also be expected to get some innings along with sophomore Robert Hansen, a rhp who limited action at the end of last season.

"To be successful this year we have to get a lot of experience for some kids quickly, hope the pitching can keep us close and give us a chance, and hope to be competitive by district tournament time" said Coach Shelton.

Smyrna   33-8              2/26/08                    85

The Bulldogs return 8 seniors with 7 of those coming into 2008 with some varsity experience over the last 2 years. Senior Sonny Gray is the top returnee with a .461 BA, 10 HR and 43 RBI and will play SS when not on the mound. Junior Austin Towne hit 14 2B and a .333 BA, he should play 3B and C. Seniors Randy Tharpe at 2B and Ryan Swader behind the plate played everyday last year on a team that went 33 and 8 making it to the State Tournament. Seniors Casey Blount in the OF, Kelly Thomason at 1B and Zach Gallaher at 3B have seen quality
time on the field as sophomores and juniors.
The Bulldogs have senior Sonny Gray, 11 wins, 145 K and 0.91 ERA leads the pitching staff. Senior Zach Gallaher went 4 and 1 last year in non-distrct action. Senior Andy Phillips, Junior Adam Boyd and Sophomore Chris Sutherland will provide major innings in district play.

"The key to our season is to win on Tuesday and Wednesday in district play while getting better in non-district play and practice," said Coach Vetter.

"To be successful this year Franklin will have to continue to stay hungry.  We will be anchored by a senior class that has experienced a large amount of success throughout their high school careers.  The question will be whether or not they are content to rest on their accomplishments to date or are they willing to make the sacrifices
necessary to compete for a state championship after making it to Murfreesboro each of their first three years," said Coach Alumbaugh.

Centennial       19-11             1/31/08               58

The 2008 Centennial High School Baseball Team will be led by seniors, Matt Williams (Liberty University),Chase Barlar, Chris McCullom, and Chad Lister. Williams is a three year starter at SS and Barlar, McCullom, and Lister all had significant playing time as juniors. These seniors will be relied to carry this team with their play and leadership. Seniors that will be contributors this year will be Alex Mueller, Brandon McCarty, and Lamar Nathan The top underclassman we have returning are Luke Fennell (jr.) who did all of the catching last year. Led the team in fielding % with a .940. Ryan Passmore (jr) started every game at 2nd base and will do some pitching this year. Alex Chambers, Daniel Cremins, and Kevin Farber, all juniors, will lead in the pitching staff along with junior transfers Austin Collier an Cody Kilgore. Sophomore Tony Kemp will be returning as the leading hitter last year as a freshman and will be the leader of the defense starting in CF.

The pitchers will be led by seniors Chris McCullom (5-3) 3.8 era. Chad
Lister (3-4) JR.S will be Kevin Farber, Daniel Cremins, Alex Chambers and Cody Kilgore.

"To be successful this year we need to play solid defensive baseball. Our pitchers need to be consistent and throw strikes and let the defense make the plays behind them," said Coach Baughman.

Kenwood  3-21                 12/4/07                02

The Knights return 6 starters from last year's team.  The team has 7 seniors and 5 will be everyday starters.  The Knights return perhaps the best player in the District in Robert Haggerty(2x All District 10-AAA).  The Knights also return Will Pinkston, who led the team in OBP last year.  Other returning starters include: Jared Bowers(SR), Ricky Davenport(JR), Eric Powers(JR), Frank Cooley(SR), and Mikey Shirk(JR).  The Knights will also look to several underclassmen such as Robert Davenport(SO), Colton Dorris(FR), and Terrence Bolton(FR) for significant contributions.

1B-Frank Cooley/(SO) Anthony LeBron
2B-Eric Powers/(SR)Kevin Westover
3B-Robert Haggerty/Will Pinkston
SS-Mikey Shirk/Robert Haggerty
C-COlton Dorris/Robert Haggerty
RF-Patrick Wilson/Will Pinkston
LF-Jared Bowers/Robert Davenport
CF-Ricky Davenport/Terrence Bolton

Pitching-wise the Knights look to be deeper than last year's team.  The team returns its top two starters in Robert Haggerty and Mikey Shirk.  Those two look to be the District starters, with Eric Powers and Will Pinkston pitching mid-week games and/or relief.  Kevin Westover looks to be the main go-to guy from the pin.

The Knights are very optimistic about this year's team.  "More discipline and devotion to the off-season program has produced a far more focused and prepared Kenwood team. The Knights will need consistent pitching, no injuries, and major contributions from under-classmen in order to be major players in wide open district race," said Coach Brown.

Northeast      16-16              12/7/07              010

www.eaglesbaseballonline.com

The Eagles will be returning 7 players who received significant varsity time last season.  The team will have more leadership this season as a result.  The offense will be led by Junior Left Fielder/Pitcher Johnny Newsom.  Newsom returns for his third season as an Eagles Starter.  He looks to add to his outstanding numbers (.425 BA, 12HR, 38 RBI, 12 SB).  Senior Jerramie Medlen will see time at both Catcher and SS.  He will be a leader on the field, and will continue to hit in the middle of the order.  Juniors Steven Richardson, and Jaurice White will return to the outfield. White adds power to the lineup, while Richardson adds excellent defense and speed. Senior Chris Deason will see time at 1B/DH, and also add power to the lineup. Joseph Porter will be the utility man this year spending time in the outfield along with first and third.  Dustin Hunter will start at second base, where he saw a lot of
time last season.  One of the better gloves in the district, Sr.,  Robert Wilson returns to Northeast after spending the last season at Fort Campbell.  Freshman Kevin Nunez will see time at both SS and C.  He will be the next freshman to start at NEHS.

C- Kevin Nunez/Jerramie Medlen
1B- Chris Deason/Joseph Porter
2B- Dustin Hunter
3B- Joseph Porter/Louis Huey
SS- Jerramie Medlen/Kevin Nunez/Robert Wilson
LF- Johnny Newsom/Josh Jenkins
CF- Steven Richardson
RF- Jaurice White/Kenneth Rittenberry
DH- Chris Deason/Jaurice White

On the mound this year the Eagles will have to replace two arms that ate up a lot of innings last year.  Jerramie Medlen will be a go to pitcher this season.  He has great control of three pitches, and is a very smart pitcher.  Johnny Newsom will also see time on the mound.  He has increased him arm strength this off-season.  SO. Kenneth Rittenberry has the potential to be a dominant pitcher with good velocity, and a plus slider.  If he's on he will make our team go.  Also seeing time will be Joseph Porter, and Kevin Nunez.

"To be successful this year we will have to improve on defense, and get consistent pitching.  Also continue to show the hard work that has been shown during the fall," said Coach Smith.

Henry Co.        12-19                   1/21/08                47

The Patriots should have a battle at all positions in the field.  Competition will help push the players and the lineup will change frequently until the best eight separate themselves.  Listed below are some possibilities at each position:
1B-Thoms Hunt(SR), Tyler Lamb(JR)
2B-Anthony Rivera(SR), Zac Hastings(SR)
SS-Skylar Haley(SO), Hunter Frey(FR)
3B-Clayton Lee(SO), Skylar Haley(SO)
LF-Caleb Pinson(SR), Hunter Frey(FR)
CF-Colin Paschall(SR),Marshall Petty(JR)
RF-Zac Hastings(SR), Cory Sawyers(SR)
C-Kane Barrow(SO), Skylar Haley(SO)
As with our position players, it is too difficult to predict how the 2008 staff will play out. Below is the list of possibilities:
Thomas Hunt,RHP,SR(Led '07 team in wins)
Cory Sawyers,LHP,SR
Colin Paschall,RHP,SR
Blake Ward,LHP,JR(2nd best ERA in '07)
Kane Barrow,RHP,SO
Clayton Lee,RHP,SO
Skylar Haley,RHP,SO

"To be successful this year we must be more consistent in all phases of the game. Our upperclassmen will have to provide leadership, which may include accepting roles.  We have a nice group of returning players with experience along with a hardworking group of newcomers that have some talent.  This team has the tools to be successful if they continue to work hard and if they buy into the team concept," said Coach Welp.
