Scott Paterson, an assistant at Milan for the past 20
years, will take over as the head coach at Milan. He will replace the
legendary Donny Joyner who lead the Bulldogs to several district and
regional championships, as well as the the 2004 State Championship. The
Bulldogs will be looking to continue the foundation that Coach
Joyner started in Milan. The Bulldogs will return several players with
experience. The corners are projected to be Alex Jackson (SR) at 1st and
Mason Garrett (SR) at 3rd. Up the middle the 'Dogs return Eric Todd (SOPH)
at SS and Dakota Wilson (SR) at 2nd. Brian Vinson (SR) will handle the
catching duties.
The outfield will be relatively young with Jay Lusk (SR), Jake Stewart
(SR), and Sophomores Taylor Paterson and Ben Webb battling for a starting
position. The pitching staff will consist of Craig Fields (JR), Seniors
Jackson, Wilson, Lusk, and Garrett. Ben Webb (Soph) and Matthew Nunnery
(JR).
"To be successful this year our seniors will need to provide leadership
and the underclassmen will need to step up. It is a very tough district,
we will just take one game at a time," added Coach Paterson.

72 The Choctaws will return their top pitchers from
07 Derek Sims (all-state ) (Sr.) and B.A. Davis (Sr.) who
combined record was 24-3. Also Shortstop Shea Thomas (Jr.) the
team's leading hitter last season (64 hits) will be expected to have a
good year. Others that will be expected to contribute will be Chad Gammons

willing to get dirty every game, play as a team, make routine plays and
swing the bat," said Coach Ozment.

The top returning position players for the Pioneers will be
Mitchell Jones, jr, c, Tyler Laster, jr, mif, Chad McMackin, so,mif,
Eric Jercinovich, jr, utility and Seth Coffman,jr,of.
The top returning pitchers for the Pioneers include Nathan
Smith, jr ,rhp, Justin Rea, sr, rhp, Barton Lockhart, jr, lhp, Trey Tate,
so, rhp, Matt Wilson, jr, rhp, Daniel Clifft, so, lhp, Justin Woods, jr ,rhp,
and Caleb Carey, so, rhp.
"To be successful this year we must grow up in a hurry. We must be
committed to doing the little things. Very little experience, both with
the 1st year head coach and players. Everyone must be committed to
get-ting better every week and hopefully be able to compete when it gets
tournament time," said Coach Burke.

USJ 41-7 State Runner-up

The 2008 Bruins will be led by Clayton Gant and Danny
Grimm. The only two Seniors on the team although USJ does return 7
starters from last years State runner-up finish. Both of these players
combine for 7 years of playing experience. USJ is young on paper but has
experience coming back this year. Juniors that will be contributing this
year are
2B/P Benjie Fesmire(All State 07), 1B John Wills , 1B/P Jared Davis, P
Marshall Seals and C Brad Barclay. Sophomores will be led by 3B/P Preston
Overbey, CF Kyle Bryan, LF Dusty Bright, RF/P Walker McWherter, RF Hunter
Smith and C Trey Buckley.
Other players that can and should contribute are UP Jake Overbey (F), P
Cheyenne Kirk (Soph)and 2B Tyler Tollison (Soph).
The pitching staff is led by Clayton Gant which was 14-1 last season.
He is complemented by Preston Overbey 9-3, Benjie Fesmire 11-0, Jared
Davis (transfer 07), Walker McWherter and Marshall Seals. There are a few
other pitchers that can contribute if they continue to improve from this
past summer and learn to compete once they enter a game.
"To be successful this year we have to be healthy at the end and learn to
compete more each day. Most importantly we need to learn how to become a
complete team in order to achieve any success," said Coach Dyer.

84 The 2008 Tigers will be led by a trio of
seniors. Thomas Pillow, Tyler Haynes, and Zach Lewis will be asked
to lead the Tigers this year. Thomas Pillow and Zach Lewis are
returning starters from last year, while Tyler Haynes played a reserve
roll. Thomas started every game at 2nd for the Tigers last year. His
offensive numbers were a .326 avg 22 BB, 33 R, OBP .496. Zach was
one of the Tigers top pitchers along with position players until a knee
injury sidelined him the later part of the year. Zach's numbers were
offensively .311 avg, 1 HR, 18 rbi's, 346 OBP. His pitching stats
were 4-3, 37.67 IP, 45k's, 2.79 era. The Tigers will need several
younger players to improve as the year goes on if we want to go deep in
the post season.
The Tigers are returning 2 of their top 5 pitchers from last year.
Zach Lewis- SR and Jeffrey Edwards- JR 5-2, 49.67 IP, 39 k's, 2.11 era,
along with Dalton Edenfield- JR 2-1, 14.33 IP, 15 k's, 3.42 era, Jacoby
Harris SOPH- no varsity innings, Mack Burke JR- transfer from Brighton,
Brandon Conrad JR- did not play last year, Ryan Seaton JR - no varsity
innings will be called upon to log the majority of the varsity innings on
the mound this year. The young men will be tested early in the year
to see what they are made of. Several other player's will be called
upon to step up this year offensively: Jeffrey Edwards JR- .340 avg,
Dalton Edenfield JR- .167 avg, Taylor Emerson JR- .152 avg, Ryan Seaton
JR- .276 avg, Travis Harwell JR- .250 avg, Chris Morris JR- .333 avg, Sam
Sigman Jr- .333 avg, Jacoby Harris Soph, Brian Robison Soph, Trey Owen
Soph. Several of these guys will need to step up their offensive
production from last year if we are gong to have success this year.
This Tiger team is not as talented as past Tiger teams but they are going
to make up for it with their hard work and heart.
