Brentwood Academy     23-14 State Champs          2/13/11

The 2011 Brentwood Academy Eagles will pursue their fourth straight State Champion-ship, and fifth title in overall school history. The three year run has created high expectations, but 2011 could truly resemble a rebuilding season of sorts. Although several experienced players return, key positions and key roles on the 2011 team will rely upon young, unproven talent.

Offensively, the Eagles will lean on Sophomore Will Haynie. Haynie burst on the scene as a freshman with a .343 BA, 27 RBI, 12 2B, and 5 HR. Senior outfielder Nathan Renfro provided pop last spring with a .316 BA, 24 RBI, 9 2B, and 8 HR. Late in the season, senior Taylor Green provided some big hits on his way to a .379 BA.

Pitching depth will be a key factor in the outcome for the 2011 season. Senior Tyler Berlin was 5-0 last spring with 39.33 IP and 35 SO. Junior Hunter Wood must also shoulder a heavy load again this spring. Wood was 4-3 with a 2.70 ERA while drawing the tougher assignments throughout the 2010 season.

Defensively, the Eagles have some gaping holes to fill. The outfield is the only area with depth and proven players. Nathan Renfro, Mason Sutton, Taylor Green, and Brennon Mobley are all solid defensive players. Will Haynie and Griffin Ganick will provide some versatility on defense while Robert Hinson and Andrew Lundborg have the tall order of providing stability behind the plate.

The biggest hurdle for the 2011 Eagles to clear this spring  will be pitching depth and getting steady defensive play up the middle. Graduated seniors Cody Nelson (CF), Jay Hooper Luna (2B), Andy Lennington (SS), and 2010 Player of the Year Will Blalock (P,1B) take with them stability, talent, and leadership. Each team in the Division II Middle Region returns experienced starting line ups which provides 21 tough conference games. Furthermore, the non-conference schedule in not much easier. It includes Lipscomb, Goodpasture, former state champ-ions from Indiana, a strong St. Xavier team from Louisville(KY) and a season opening Hall of Fame Tournament in Orlando, Florida.  The schedule provides true on the job training for this inexperienced crop of Eagles.

Donelson Christian   25-10                              2/7/11

The 2011 DCA Wildcats will be led by two outstanding seniors. Catcher Neil Hickman had 10 homeruns and hit .491 last season. He has signed a Baseball Scholarship with Belmont University. Pitcher Taylor Wilson returns to handle much of the pitching load. Taylor struck out 98 hitters and set a new DCA record with 11 wins on the season. The Club will need to replace some serious fire power lost to graduation. Sophomore pitcher Jamie Young will be called on to help fill the void of graduates Wacey Russell (Union University) and Shane Jones. Returning in the field will be Juniors Jared Goodman, Jamison Manning, Daniel Mathis, and Brett Wolf.
