⚾ NFHS Announces 2027 High School Baseball Rules Changes

Key updates for the 2027 season include:

Schools may choose to use either an 18-inch first base or the double first base to improve player safety and reduce collisions.

• One-way electronic communication will be allowed from the coach in the dugout to the pitcher and/or catcher for pitch calling.

• Beginning in 2028, an additional class of USA Baseball-certified non-wood bats

  (-4, - 5, -6) will be permitted alongside BBCOR .50 bats.

• Eye shade must be a solid stroke only—no words, numbers, logos, or symbols.

• Players on the field may not use electronic devices (headphones, recording or streaming devices, etc.), except approved medical devices and permitted coach-to-player communication.

• Coaches may now use handheld electronic scoring devices while in the coach's box.

• States using a tiebreaker now have the option to begin each extra half-inning with a runner on second base (the last scheduled batter).
